No, thanks, I just had some extra chocolate and now I’m full.
But you can probably freeze the colcannon. The texture might change a little bit, but I don’t think the flavor will be affected.

Oh my, Bumba is asking me a sports type question. Uuummm… Go Tigers! And to a kid who doesn’t remember a world before cds, Cobain invented music. Plus he was so traaaaagic and daaark, sigh. Blurg. We swerved over to him because the Seattle scene involved a great deal of plaid flannel, y’see, gardentraveler.
Well, the great Ashes corned beef and cabbage experiment is over. I have eaten my mom’s from a can with squidgey thick cabbage ribs and now my own made from scratch with fussy-cut cabbage leaves. And I would not like more, forever. Good news is, the meat will make great shredded beef for the machaca norteno in my chimichangas. Say that three times fast!
Instead I will celebrate SPD with erm, lessee, spirits. Which is better Laphroig or Gulden Draak? They’re both neighbors of the Emerald Isle y’see, and the best I can do on such short notice.
I miss Swampy. Not a <snerk> to be had.
They’d mail it to me if I want, and they actually offered to mail it in the next week or two, seeing how I technically was a December grad. Originally, I was going to go for that, but being the attention whore that I am, I decided to take the walk. There’s a side benefit of a trip back to Indiannoplace and seeing the relatives for a bit.
I miss Swampy, too. Especially for the concept of forcefeeding him colcannon in order to produce some Swampgas[sup]tm[/sup].
Since we’re missing out, MMPers: here, have a <snerk>
Wales, actually.
Why no, I don’t have anything worthwhile to post this morning. Why do you ask?
He’s already got a cushy gov’t job. He was hanging out with the new astronauts yesterday.
Actually, today is when I get to hang with the newbie zoomers. I’ll same the update on that for the next MMP, 'cuz stuff tends to get lost over the weekend.
Congrats, VunderBob! Yeah, you’ve got to do at least one graduation walk-across-the-stage.
My corned beef & cabbage turned out quite well. And now I have another whole one in the freezer to make sometime 'cause I bought 2 expecting a large crowd for dinner and ended up with only 4 people. So I’ve got extra for sometime or other. No colcannon at my place though so I don’t know anything about freezing that Wile E.
Happy Friday everybody!
bob, you simply must post some pics of your stroll across the stage. Congrats!
I didn’t do any SPD celebratin’ of either the imbibing or culinary sort. I hadda trek out to see Grampy and Gram yesterday afternoon. So anyhoo, I just broiled some pork sirloins, which technically is more traditionally Irish than beef, iffen you really wanna know.
I think Lil Lestat[sup]TM[/sup] and his girlfriend mighta celebrated a tad too much. When Mr. Anachi took the garbage out this morning, he reported that they were sleeping in her car in the driveway…and it was in the 40s this morning. After I finished my walk, I went out there and knocked on the window to make sure they were alive. I told them to go in the house but they were still out there when I left for work. Somebody is gonna feel like shite today.
Bring on the weekend!!!
Tupug
Went out walking with Attacks Husband, to celebrate that it was night and almost above freezing at the same time! And I haven’t been on a past-midnight stroll since summer. We ended up in Tim Horton’s at 3 a.m. listening to a bunch of drunk 40 year old flirting with some giggly 15 year olds. Nothing happened, but it was creepy. When I have teenage girls I’m going to lock them up.
I’m tired today, in spite of getting lots of sleep. I’m going to laze around. I have to work for the next three days, so today’s my weekend.
The astronaut class I had lunch with…
Bob Kimbrough and Chris Cassidy sat at my table, so I talked with them the most, but I also talked with Shannon Walker and James Dutton. Shook hands with all the NASA crew, but I didn’t have a chance to interact with the Japanese contingent.
For all you guys who like girls, I also want to add that Dottie Kimbrough-Lindenberger has a fabulous backside that even a flight suit could not hide.
That’s Dottie Metcalfe-Lindenberger, not Kimbrough. :smack:
Dang - James Dutton looks like he’s still in Jr high - at least in the pic! I feel so ancient.
I made my corned beef a different way (for me, anyway) - I boiled it for about 90 minutes, then baked it for about an hour. It was yummerriffic!!! We almost didn’t have leftovers, but neither of us could be quite gluttonous enough to finish the last 6 slices. It was gooooooood. Then I boiled cabbage, onion, and carrots in the residual corned beef water as the meat baked. Definitely a good dinner.
Tonight, it’s foraging for leftovers.
So did any of the local TV crews follow you around today?
Not here, but they were at a school program at the Air and Space Center beforehand, and I’m sure they had press there. NASA has never turned down good PR.
In real life, he looks like he ought to be wearing polo shirts and khakis, hanging with Biff and Muffie at the frat house. He’s not Jr. High material.
All this talk about astronauts made me change my desktop wallpaper. I replaced Paulina Porizkova with a picture of the three purple-haired Moonbase officers from UFO.
Too bad they’re not wearing bikinis like Paulina was.
I was wondering how you made a smooth transition from St. Patrick to Kurt Cobain. What grade(s) do you teach? (Seems like I should know this, but it’s not coming to me…).
I’m missing all the <snerks> too (although thank you Bob for the emergency back-up <snerk>).
Glad I’m not the only one who thought the astronauts looked like they were approximately 12.
Tupug, if you’re still around…how’s Grampy doing?
It’s Friday and I’m home from work early…YAY!!! The weather is really nice, so maybe I’ll go out and see what I can do in the garden. It almost looks like spring.

Woooo! I’m stripping!!
(Wallpaper, that is.)
Just so’s you all know, here are some wallpaper removal tips from the Queen of Trial & Error:
DIF spray-on gel-type wallpaper remover = worthless.
Hot water in a spray bottle = helluva lot better method.
Paper Tiger perforating tool is about worthless, too, at least on my wallpaper. I finally just yanked all the vinyl off and hot-water-sprayed the backing.
Peirogi = great way to carbo-load between strips.
Best musical accompaniment for wallpaper removal tasks: the Commodores’ “Brick House” and Meat Loaf’s "Life Is a Lemon (and I Want My Money Back.)
Happy Friday!
We tore off the vinyl border and used the gel stripper, then I discovered that water would have worked just as well, without the gooey residue to be washed off. So when we remove the rest of the borders, whenever we get to it, I’ll do the hot water thing.
Pierogi - great any time for any reason! Yum!
Thanks for askin’ GT. He’s really recovering well. The problem is that the Grampuses are getting stressed out because they are both getting really frail and cannot deal with day-to-day problems any longer so they start sniping at each other. Their car isn’t working right now and to tell the truth, neither one of them should be driving any longer. So my going out to their place was a campaign to get them moved closer in to where my sister and I live so that we can drop by frequently to help out. I’ve got two places to look at tomorrow that are five minutes from my house. Keep yer fingers crossed.
Is it 5:30 yet??
