Five days into fatherhood, and I can’t believe how much I love this tiny little bundle.
If there’s one sound that always cut right through me, it was a screaming baby. This one turns on the siren, and it’s musical to me. I had no idea how I was going to get through the trauma of changing a diaper. Now I realize that when it’s your own baby, it’s nothing. I must spend a good three or four hours each day just staring at this helpless little lump who depends upon my wife and I for everything in her world, and all I can think is that from here on out, it’s all for her. Everything I do. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Well, “Shayla” anagrams nicely to Say, Hal!, while “Shayla Kathleen McLaughlin” gives us Hal’s gal may like hen at lunch. 
Nutty Bunny – sleeping is working out ok. Shayla sleeps probably 18 hours a day, so there’s ample napping time (yes, everyone, I know this will change before too long). If you can swing it, save as much vacation time as possible. I won’t be going back to work until the middle of December, so we can use that time to try and establish a workable feeding schedule.
Technically, no. She was in the “Special Care” nursery – not their standard nursery, but not a NICU either. She was born with a 102 fever, so she had to spend a few days in there getting antibiotics and such. By Wednesday, she was fully cleared and was able to join us in the hospital room.
And you tell Moon Unit that you’re invited any time.

Congratulations! I’m sorry I’m so late to welcome the new babe, but I haven’t had much time to check out the boards since my baby girl was born 11 weeks ago.
