It's A Dark, Cold Rainy Day - You Are Home Alone...

How is reading a good book unproductive?! I think keeping one’s mind alive and well nourished is important, myself!

I’ll be working on my ongoing project of watching all the porn on the Internet.

Bagels & peanut butter, ice cream, Firefly marathon.

That reminds me of my childhood ambition to read every book in the world. I didn’t realize people were still writing them.

I’d get a pile of yarn, a pattern, knitting needles or crochet hooks as applicable, and I’d find something on Netflix. I can’t just watch TV and I can’t just knit/crochet, but the two together makes for a perfect, peaceful way to pass time.

That is my absolute favorite kind of day. I would make a pot of tea and sit out on the roofed porch, watch the trains go by and wet people running down the street. Maybe read a book for a bit while out there. When I get cold, I’ll go back inside, leaving the back door open and windows cracked all around so I can hear the rain and thunder. Something on the stove, probably lentil chili and cornbread in the oven. Definitely an afternoon movie and nap!

Thanks for the reminiscence. This heat and drought have been making me so depressed, a day like this seems so very long ago. But just dreaming about it for a little bit has brought a sad smile to my face.

Godspeed, sir.

What I wouldn’t give for a dark, cold, rainy day! I am so sick unto death of this boiling hot disgusting summer! … Well, in the past, I used to bake something if only to make the house smell good! My grandmother used to make the ‘coffee cake’ quickie recipe off the back of the Bisquik box, it didn’t taste so good, but the cinnamon and brown sugar topping smelled like heaven…OK, housework done, laundry done, not a thing left to do but put on TCM and hope for a great old movie from the 30’s where the women in skimpy satin tea gowns are rushing around an art deco mansion (with enormous flower arrangements in every room), exchanging sassy bon mots with Adolph Menjou…oh, look, movies starring Cary Grant are on all day!..Drowse off for a well-deserved nap under a freshly laundered velour throw, rain driving against the window.

Then the fucking phone rings, and it’s someone with some stupid problem I have to get up and help them out of…fuck.

I’d start out by masturbating. Then I’d spend the majority of the day out in my woodshop (read: garage), building one of the many things on my list, teaching myself new joinery techniques and experimenting with my tools to see what else I can do with them.

Then I’d clean up and run to the grocery store for the ingredients for some recipe item I want to replicate, head home and make myself a delicious dinner. A martini cocktail, a glass of good wine and a great meal. Follow it up with by watching a movie that my wife has no interest in.

Then I’d masturbate again and go to bed.

Is there some kind of clone project going on? Because somehow applebetty and Súil Dubh have made a Sigmagirl cocktail. Dog in lap, soup cooking, book in hand; check on bread, alternate dogs. Repeat. Husband in other room working on music stuff and sniffing soup aroma expectantly.

ETA: Forgot cheese. Must not forget cheese.

Well, first off, it’s not necessarily guilt-free, since a rainy day home alone is great for getting some writing done, and I’d feel guilt if I didn’t. But getting a few thousand words cranked out for Camp Nanowrimo would be a lot of fun.

Let’s see, what else. Filet mignon with onion and potato patties and gravy for lunch… maybe read some more of “The Deathly Hallows”, and check out Continuum and the new episodes of 'Degrassi next generation"

It’ll be raining on the long weekend, so I may actually get to do this!

Hot tea. If I have the ingredients, soup or pot roast will occur later in the day. Once I’ve got things simmering, then I’ll light a scented votive (for aroma and in case the frigging power goes out) and knit while I watch an old movie.

Oh my, how I’d love to have a day like this. Inclement weather and HOME ALONE oh my gosh.

I’d spend time baking… if I had the right things in the house I’d make myself tea-for-lunch with scones and little sandwiches and things. I’d then plant myself on the sofa with Downton Abbey and some knitting.

I close the blinds, turn off all the lights except for a small, rather dim reading lamp, and set up some creepy sounding electronic music to play on the computer for a few hours. Setting up the playlist will probably take an hour or so. Then I re-read some of my favorite Lovecraft stories. In between tales, I pick away at this fantasy adventure novel I’ve been writing in little bits and pieces for around thirty five years now, having vowed that I will someday actually finish it (or at least a first draft). At some point during the day a pot of soup or stew will be made. In my bedtime prayers that night, I will thank Lord Cthulhu for a nearly perfect day.

Pumpkin fritters, Drambuie and Ultima 8, I think.

About 3 hours of guitar noodling.

Marathon on some series off of Netflix in the early afternoon

A nap would be deployed at some proper moment

Damn! Forgot the Drambuie!

Never get out of my pjs, start a pot of kitchen sink soup to simmer on the stove, surf On Demand for everything I never have time to watch on any other day, veg on the couch with the SuperKitties, take a long afternoon nap.

Heaven.

I would spend the day cooking up something delicious, drinking a good red wine and reading.

How do you decide?

I might knit. Guitar noodling is also an option. I also bought a mandolin a year ago, I could learn a fourth chord maybe. There are many, many books in my “to be read but not kept forever” pile, and even more in my “so beloved I will never give them up because I like to reread” shelves.

Some days are more suited to watching RoboCop and Cobra.

Sometimes on such an afternoon I prepare afternoon tea.

A nap is also a strong possibility.

Bring on the rain!
