A big bowl of spaghetti and a marathon of classic Universal monster movies.
Not necessarily my favorites, just favorites for a dark, cold, rainy day.
Book: A Nero Wolfe mystery
Movie: Sweet Smell of Success
Music: Bach French Suites
Food: Chinese delivery
And yeah, the guitar noodling sounds good, but probably more piano on the dark days.
I refuse to call reading a book a guilty pleasure.
Let’s see … a cold, rainy day, home alone? Reading a book is high up there, but assuming my larder were fully stocked, I would be quite likely to make a very nice supper from scratch, eating as little as possible as the day progressed so I could best enjoy the meal once it was ready. Let me think…
Okay, this hasenpfeffer recipe takes about two hours start to finish.
From the same website, some homemade bread.
Roasted garlic lemon broccoli on the side. Or maybe some spinach rice. Or maybe both; I’ve got all day, and the first one is very quick.
Dessert, dessert, what’s for dessert. Nothing fancy. Chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.
I can kill an afternoon doing all that. Assuming it’s not raining too hard (or rather that the wind isn’t blowing too hard), I’ll open the windows while cooking. I like cooking alone but not eating alone, but all I have to do is open the doors to the apartment and at least one neighbor will join me. Or I can always call one of my sisters. I have four who live in the city, and they all have kids, and it’s not hard to get people to come over for free food. I’d rather the wife and kid were here, though.
Napping with the two dogs, putting something in the crockpot to simmer for hours, bake some brownies, and read something mindless. Maybe go down to the basement and weave a rug or two, if I feel really ambitious.
Another vote for knitting. One of two ways:
A fairly mindless project and a TV or movie marathon. I’d really like to see the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series.
Alternatively, a new, complicated project that requires those uninterrupted hours that I never seem to have when I am well-rested and awake enought to use them. I want to learn how to do toe-up socks and similar things that start with a small circle, but I never have the time or patience to watch the YouTube videos on the topic.
Changing my answer - I’m going to head over to Skald’s house. Don’t you bother about the dessert. I’ll bring an almond pithivier.
Right now it is a cool and rainy day in Minnesota. It’ll get hotter as it progresses, though, but only upper 70’s.
I got these things going on simultaneously;
A throwback game of Civ II
A pile of blueberries and cherries (I already finished the plum)
A mug of Cherry Coke Zero
The older non-online D&D DDI program up working on a 6th level Half Elf Archer style Bard for a LivingForgottenRealms game I’m joining.
iTunes playing my music
Straightdope on one window
Dancing around other pages on another window
And typing this reminded me that;
1> I have a lot of laundry I need to put in the dryer
2> I was going to work on the seed kernel of an idea for a 4e D&D campaign set on a rough map of England, divided into several dozen small kingdoms ruled by Dragons, with only one small Human kingdom down where Southhampton and Portsmouth are, and the ruins of an ancient kingdom of madness and evil (Call of Cthulhu elements) up along the Ipswich to Norwich coast.
3> I could really use a piece of dark chocolate to go along with this fruit.
I guess I shouldn’t have posted here, because I don’t feel even slightly guilty about this.
