Feds Take ‘Reverse Elian’ Case
We failed to distinguish ourselves, even if we eventually reached the right outcome. Let’s see how Cuba does.
Actually, though I can’t imagine why anyone would choose Cuba over the US, I have heard that Cuba’s educational system is run incredibly well. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
This situation is a real situation (Elian only had one surviving parent, case closed to me) because both parents are still around. Still, I doubt this will be a bay of pigs affair. The mom will probably, for whatever reason she went in the first place, stay in Cuba and raise a good fascist.
I don’t see the comparison here. This seems to be a bitter custody dispute between 2 parents, not any different from others that have been well-publicized recently with one parent in the US and the other back in some native country with the kids.
Elian Gonzalez had a great-uncle claiming to have a better right to his custody than his own, proven-loving, father. That was an obvious call, if you separate the jingoism.
This poor kid has 2 parents with equal rights and no way to resolve it except by person-to-person agreement.
The location of mother and son is still in question. Cuba is a good bet, but not proven. Let’s see where they turn up before we start with the rhetoric.
