I’m fond of Providence and still have a number of friends there.
I … yanno, I don’t know if I’m ashamed or proud.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 72 degrees Ferret Height(22.222 Centipedes) outside.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 26c/78f with a predicted high of 32c/90f and sunny. Weather app says “Public Safety Announcement - it’s probably a fucking good day to powder your vajayjay.” I don’t even want to think about that.
Do you feel that’s changing, with more time talking to people who are on similar paths to you? It makes me think that some people are just a little more at peace with the body parts they’ve got and have learned to accept it, especially if changing something is difficult, costly and potentially won’t give them the satisfaction they’re looking for.
Knotty I hope the neurology appointment goes well and they have good news for you.
VanGo sometimes Boards need to be told they’re stupid, they won’t work that out for themselves!
Yesterday was another scorcher but a couple of us managed to bunk off early. There were three of us in the office but there was some mandatory jollification going on with we weren’t interested in, so two of us bunked off early. To be fair, we weren’t being productive because the office was too hot and stuffy so we decided to cut our losses and leave. Nobody was going to know, they would just have thought we were at the College barbecue thing.
Got home (eventually) but had to suffer the tram from Big City station to home station because so many trains were cancelled. I had a cold shower when I got in and felt better for about five minutes after that before I got all hot and sticky again. Couldn’t be bothered cooking so we had some quiche and a salad for dinner - 'im indoors is apparently not used to the idea of salad as a meal rather than a side dish so that was a revelation for him!
The aircon unit kept the bedroom reasonably cool but coming out of that room this morning was brutal. I opened the big windows for an hour before I had to leave the house so hopefully he’ll open them when he gets up later. We are going out tonight so the house will be closed up again, I will suggest to him that he puts the aircon on for a couple of hours in the evening to cool the room down, then we can put it on again when we come back in.
Mornin’. Have taken the cardboard recycling bin out already. It’s only a once a month collection and I keep missing it, so it’s full.
It varies a lot; like Mexican food, the reputation is ‘spicy’, but there’s more to it if you go somewhere good.
Basic places just do a bunch of actually pretty similar curries, using the same spices in slightly different variations, normally with at least one option almost inedibly full of chilli, apparently aimed at macho guys who think it’s showing off to eat unpleasantly hot food. If you want to try Indian food and you’re somewhere with multiple options, my approach in the UK at least is to look for a restaurant which does a section labelled something like ‘street food’, which tends to indicate a place with a more modern menu, with a much bigger variation in flavours and things, including some with little or no spice.
The storm missed me in the night- it came close enough that I could hear the thunder, but no rain. The second round is just rolling in now. It shouldn’t last long, but I’m gonna wait until it passes over before going into irk, as it looks like there may be one of those brief torrential downpours coming with it, and I don’t want to be driving through that. I think the worst bit will pass to the east, but today I only need to go in for one half hour meeting (which could be done from home) and to drop some samples off (which can’t), and the rest is writing, which I’m not feeling all that inspired about this morning.
Although it’s not been anywhere near as hot here as Down South, it’s still been unpleasantly muggy and humid at night- so I’ve had multiple nights of ‘wake up feeling chilly, put blanket on, wake up roasting, take blanket off’ cycles, not to mention being woken up by the thunder last night, and I would very much like a few hours more sleep.
Cat Glove, what bees do you normally get which are missing? Are we talking honeybees, bumblebees or native bees? They all have different issues at the moment, some of which individuals can do something about, some not so much…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 87 with some rain predicted around three p.m. Strange to me that BooFae and to some extent Nuts are experiencin’ higher temps right now. Hope the heatwave in GB abates soonest. I shall go over to the church house this mornin’ to deal with candle and other duties. OYKW will accompany me and then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up for today’s main need to feed. The rest of the day will be spent in the usual RDOS sloth inactivities, as is our wont.
Nuts there are no options for Indian food around here, at least that I know of. I know there’s options for Thai. That’s the main reason I have never had Indian comestibles. If/when I ever do find myself somewhere it’s available I shall keep your recommendations in mind.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Good morning!
Heading out on a road trip to our school’s graduation at about noon. Well, heading to the hotel today and to hang out with some work friends. Then tomorrow is graduation. Not much else really going on.
Now I am wondering what attire is inappropriate for public.
Skimmed too fast and read this as nerdologist…
Us, too. Our flight from Miami to Baltimore after our cruise in Feb will cost almost $900 (for the two of us, not each) but it’ll be worth it to avoid 3 hours of being crammed with assorted riff raff!
Not to mention early boarding and not having to pay for extra luggage, if we have some. We’ll just be spending Daughter’s inheritance. ![]()
nor is it inflatable, as my eyes first saw… It’s just too early to be internettin’ ![]()
At one of his jobs, FCD told one of the VPs what he honestly thought about some plans/new policy/something. He (my sweetie) was fired that very afternoon. And within months, the company was out of business. Take that as you will.
Nuts - when do you anticipate finishing your PhD? Since I never went beyond a Bachelor’s, I have no idea how long it takes.
The kind that doesn’t cover all one’s bits. Or, IMHO, sleepwear, not that others feel the same way. Also (IMHO) dirty, raggedy, stinky attire, provided one has the facilities to avoid wearing such.
Here, the day starts with 71 Ferrets, on the way to low 90s. Rain coming in tonight and lasting thru Sunday. And I guess that’s not a big deal since the marina pool is closed till further notice, so Daughter can’t take the grands there anyway.
We’re going out today to see if the autopilot was responsible for the steering issues we experienced last weekend. Then when we get home, I get to do laundry. Rah.
Speaking of bees:
Ground bees in Maryland are primarily native, solitary bees like mining, cellophane, and sweat bees. They excavate small, individual burrows in bare, well-drained soil. Though they sometimes gather in large groups, they are incredibly docile, rarely sting, and are vital early-spring pollinators.
So I guess one of these varieties is living on my hill.
I doubt I’ll do any outside work today. I do have a big package of ground beef that needs to be turned into meatloaf. Beyond that, I guess we’ll see what we see.
Happy Firday!
As do I! We are due to be back in the low 20s next week which is much more acceptable.
My visit to the neurologist went well. She’s going to switch my main Parkinson’s med to a long-release version of the same drug. The goal for that is to make the doses overlap, so the valleys don’t bring on PD symptoms between doses. Oh, and the doc says I’ve lost weight since my last visit. 214 pounds, on a 6’ 4" frame.
Well, I finally read everything in this thread. Whew! Be kind.
Good morning, MMPers! It was 71ºF this morning. Chloé and I had a good walk. She saw a young rabbit and was disappointed that I didn’t let her play with it. We got home to find Spike having his breakfast on the front porch, unintentionally answering Mrs Magill’s question the other day. He will not, in fact, sit in the Bojangles parking lot waiting for it to open. He will instead come home, nuke a Goolsby’s sausage biscuit, and be very slightly disappointed.
I did not sleep well last night, so I cancelled my yoga class. Continuous yawning and balance work do not mix.
I have not been. Mrs Magill’s employer is headquartered there, so she’s there a couple of times a year. Her aunt and uncle live in Connecticut, just over the state line. Personally, I love New England, having spent a chunk of my childhood summers at my Grandfather’s farm in western Connecticut.
I’ve been learning to feel grateful for what my body has done for me and how far it’s gotten me. Do I wish it were different? Kinda, but I don’t hate it. Do I like what I see in the mirror? Not really, I still have to disassociate that reflection from my self image. It makes me uncomfortable, but I don’t hate it. I genuinely feed bad for those who hate their bodies. It must be an awful feeling, and I’m grateful that it’s not one I feel.
Nuts and Swampy - Mrs Magill always goes where her Indian coworkers eat lunch, and has not been disappointed. I like Indian and Thai hot better than Tex-Mex hot. There are actual flavors behind Indian and Thai hot, as opposed to the flavor of pain. I tend to max out at 3 out of 5 on the hot scale. That’s enough to keep it interesting and make me sweat a bit, but I’m not questioning my life’s choices. And now I want vindaloo.
Knots - Glad to hear it.
Good morning.
It’s 55F, cloudy, and damp outside. The day will remain overcast with scattered showers, with a forecast high of 65F. I’m glad it’s cooled down, and I’m sure the posies appreciated the rain.
AskNott, I’m glad the neurologist visit went well.
BooFae, I hope the heatwave dissipates sooner rather than later.
I did get out and about yesterday. Two of the nurseries I like were having BOGO sales, so I decided to see what they had. The first nursery had been pretty much wiped out on the BOGOs, but I did pick up a couple of plants there. I headed out to the next nursery, and got some really nice plants there, but most of them are for the shady part of the garden. If the rain holds off, I may just go out and transplant some of them.
On my travels, I noted that fireworks stands were up.
Og help me; I hate those things now. There was an explosion up on Whidbey Island (close to Flyboy’s neck of the woods). Two houses were destroyed, and one was damaged. People were hurt; all due to seven hundred (yes, SEVEN-HUNDRED POUNDS) of fireworks that one idiot had taken delivery of. Turns out the guy was the neighborhood A-hole, too. He was not liked.
I don’t have any plans. I don’t have anywhere I need to be, and I don’t really want to go anywhere. I should probably run the vacuum, though.
Arlight, time for some more coffee. I think I’ll peruse some real estate listings today.
Please take care of yourselves.
My sense of time has been off for at least 24 hrs, perhaps longer. Yesterday I thought it was Friday most of the day. Today I keep thinking it’s Saturday. It might be because I normally work M, W and either F or Sat but this week it was M,Tu,W,Th. Off today but I’ll be back in either tomorrow or Sunday; probably tomorrow but I’ll have to go in early 7am, which is probably mid-morning for doggio, because it’s Duck Day at 10am tomorrow at the pool complex and I want to be there. You buy rubber ducks for $1@; limited to a max of 15 ducks. They put them all at the top of a huge slide and push them down into the pool; then prizes are awarded as ducks reach the opposite side of the pool. Hilarity ensues.
My last task last night after brushing my teeth was to pluck some hairs out of my chin. I decided to look up where the expression “not by the hair of my chinny chin chin” came from since I apparently have forgotten the Tale of the Three Little Pigs. At the bottom of the page it went into where “not my circus, not my monkeys” came from. I’ll bet not more than one person on this mug knew that it is an English adaptation of the Polish proverb “Nie moj cyrk, nie moje malpy” which it said roughly translates to "not my problem: or “I am not responsible for this drama.” shoe, did your parents ever use this proverb or possibly you?
It’s the honeybees that are missing. We never had very many bumblebees, just a few here and there. Not sure what native bees look like so can’t comment on them.
Did you do any hiking on the AT? I’ve hiked just the very upper part of the AT in CT starting in Salisbury and ending just south of Great Barrington, MA
Had a good breakfast (eggs scrambled with red bell pepper, green onions, parsley with DKB toast, bacon, OJ w calcium and a glass of milk). Now I need to start some morning tasks (water the garden, take laundry down from line, fold, put away, wash sheets, dishes then go Krogering) so will catch you all later.
Not in CT. I helped shear sheep. I have hiked bits of it in Georgia and North Carolina when I was in the Scouts.
Happy Firday!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not much but washing a load of towels today.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Your username reminds me of the hilarious scene from Its Always Sunny
It’s a different system here, I believe in the US it has multiple stages and multiple requirements where you need to get approved to go onto the next stage and it can go on for an indefinite time.
Here, the project is set in advance, and there’s no extra requirements, you just do the project (some courses have a training year, mine didn’t), so it’s a lot shorter. I may be able to get a few months extension if required, but it was a 4 year project, so it’s due to be done, finished, handed in the start of October, with the viva- which is the real finish- as soon as that can be arranged afterwards.
Ah, yeah, I think it’s just not worth it for a lot of beekeepers any more, with costs going up and income getting worse.
On the other hand, it seems to be the case that if you have lots of honeybees around, they can actually outcompete all the native ones, so hopefully you’ll get some of them show up and fill the gap. Dunno what your native ones look like, we have about 275 species of 'em here and I can ID about 10 reliably… It’s harder than you’d think.
Back early, as I’d offered someone a lift (one of the former students from yesterday needed to drop some stuff back to the site but the buses are a pain). Had my monthly all supervisor meeting, where they desperately try and persuade me to be an organised person yet again. Hah. Good luck to 'em. I never feel like doing much afterwards.
There is yet another thunderstorm heading this way, currently in earshot. We hardly ever get them here, I guess it’s being on the edge of the freaky heatwave.
Oh, and today’s irk drama was that one of the other students in my office managed to get locked in the showers- the door handle apparently fell off in his hand, leaving it locked. It’s in a barely used part of the building, and Fridays are always really quiet as many of the staff have a half-day so opt to WFH. He was stuck in there for an hour and a half before someone heard him trying to get out, and the light is apparently controlled by a sensor in the corridor bit where the sinks are, so most of that was in the dark. He did find it funny once he’d got out, probably not at the time. Could have been worse, I don’t know if security actually check the building before closing up…
70F at around 1100. The real heat doesn’t start until Monday.
Savory oatmeal this morning with a side bowl of fresh peaches and strawberries with yogurt. We’ve frozen several bags of strawberries, which should last us awhile. I need to pick up some more peaches before the season is over. It will be another couple of months before corn is at its sweetest. Tonight’s dinner will be salmon and rice and a salad.
filbert, good thing he had the handle to bang on the door.
koritza managed to find a way around the cling film. le sigh. the wee snail really moves around the tank. i guess they move faster in water than on land. the fish are settling in well. they really enjoy the new food and are more lively. they get 3 different types of food now. i alternate between the three.
the wawa welcome america is getting in gear. the road closures are more around independence hall now. that will change closer to july 4th when it swings back to the art museum area. we will have the winner of match 74 and 77 play on july 4th. that will be the last fifa game.
phila has the baseball all star game in july, as far as i know that will be in south philly.
