We have different ideas about green beans at home.
Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) and her daughter love (shudder) green bean casserole.
I think it would be Much Improved using fresh green beans.
My favorite is Asian wrinkled green beans. Wrinkled, yet crunchy, flavors of garlic, ginger and soy sauce.
Our difference is obviously fresh vs. canned.

I bought way too much wrapping paper and gift tags, so I hope one of my nieces will take it off my hands.
I am also exhausted, going to two stores was too much I think.
I still need to break down the ground beef and chicken into small freezer bags, but I’ll do that tomorrow. My room is kind of a mess, got a bunch of stuff to put away but I’ll do that tomorrow too.
I just feel good having all the buying and wrapping done.

Well, tomorrow’s supposed to get over 50 (next two nights supposedly still below freezing, though).
What with travel distance, DH and I generally don’t get together with family for Christmas. Going out for Chinese food tends to be on the game plan. We do normally watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” at some point between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I get an ornament with that year’s date, trying for one that in some way represents something about that year. I also at some point in December start getting the next year’s calendars: 365 Kittens for the wall, and page-a-day Jeff Foxworthy and Dilbert for the desk.
Big excitement in my day is the paid training deal I start tomorrow (run through our church). I get to do clerical/admin/phone stuff at a thrift store. OK, so it’s part-time and minimum wage, but it’ll still help my resume a bit to have some more recent paid employment listed.
flytrap I prefer fresh green beans as well, but can do frozen and canned. Canned green beans can be good if seasoned properly (they need a little bacon 'n onion and maybe some garlic) and allowed to simmer with just enough water to cover ‘em for twenty to thirty minutes. Steamin’ fresh or frozen green beans with just a little water, butter and lemon juice is also good. I do not like green bean casserole, but it’s tolerable with fresh green beans. Bread crumbs are also way better than those canned onion things.
Nettie that sounds a lot like the progam I manage. We do paid trainin’ for persons 55 and older, currently unemployed and with low income.

I’m all done with bumping my mortgage payments for this year to the maximum deductible. Today’s newspapers are saying that deductible will be removed, but this has been making the rounds for several Decembers, so for now I’m ignoring it. If mortgages ever stop being a deductible, I predict that many people will do their best to shut their mortgages down as fast as possible; I also predict that economists and politicians will be surprised by this.

I may be renting Grandma’s flat (having a Conversation on that subject with my mother, female cousin and aunt next Sunday): it gives me a base in Barna, my brothers and male cousin will have a place to sleep without much ceremony and any payment, Grandma gets income, and a flat which would otherwise have gotten progressively worse will start getting much-needed work. Since we need to redo the bathroom properly, one of the things I want is to leave it “accesible”; I think it’s much better to have at least one bathroom set up to be used by people with mobility problems (Mom has bad bones and has had a broken ankle, aunt can’t raise her hands above shoulder height and has had sprains…).
