The power came on about five minutes ago, and I’ve shut off the generator and plugged everything back into the mains.
I tried to post this, only to find the modem hadn’t restarted yet. Looks like I’m connected now.

Mooooom - My refi closed today as well. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling?
Dinner was disgustingly healthy this evening. I made a stir-fry out of chicken and shredded cabbage, broccoli, kale and carrots. My system probably won’t know how to handle it.
Johnny - Glad you finally got power back, Whenever they bork our power it’s always at the most unfortunate time. Murphy is our shepherd.
Glad the power’s back, Flyboy.

Pretty rats, shoe.
It did rain today, but not as much as predicted. Instead of the heavy all-day soaking I hoped for, we got an on-and-off drizzle. Still enough to kill business for the day, so I got to sit at a ticket window for seven hours with only the occasional interruption by a customer. I don’t want to do that every day, but sometimes it’s nice to essentially get paid for doing nothing. More rain expected tomorrow.
Thel, glad you got a good sleep in. Hang in there!
Another cheer for overlymom’s homecoming. She has a good daughter.
Power’s back, rats are cute, caves are spiffed… things are looking up in the MMP.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort.
Definitely! Plus no mortgage payment in December, and the one in January will be roughly half of what we were paying for the two. Of course, it won’t necessarily be paid off in 11 years, but at under 3%, it’s kinda hard to care!
I think back to the first house FCD and I bought together in the mid-80s - it was something like 11 or 12%!! Good old days, my Aunt Fannie!!!
Today’s big plan is getting the caddy titled and registered. Our appointment is at 9. Second big plan is a run to the convenience center. Third on the list is a stop at Food Lion and the dollar store for a few items before we start packing.
Oh yeah, and it’s below freezing out there! Glad I brought the plants in yesterday. I really should run the mulcher/vac around the yard before we go, but there are too many other more pressing things that need to be done, and the leaves will still be there when we get back, right?
Then first on the list when we get back is my car going in for its 180K mile service. With luck, it’ll just be an oil change… yeah, right.
Onward into the frosty day! Happy Wednesday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 41 Amurrkin out (BRRR!) and clear with a predicted high of 64 and N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ we shall lay in provisions. I have a doc appt. at one this afternoon. Sup shall be shrimpies ‘n grits and steamed spareguts due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’. We shall also start season for of Crown today. Had to finish watchin’ The Queen’s Gambit first. We are neat and orderly in our binge watchin’.
flyboy glad the power is back on. Not fun when the electricals are not workin’ right.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, woe and bother of all bothers, I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire as I must be about the public twice in one day. Must life be this difficult!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a minute past midday here already, not quite sure where the morning went. It’s a whopping 55F outside today, I had to stick my head (and the rest of me) outside this morning to collect a package that the delivery driver left on the doorstep. It’s a big box from Pets at Home so Shadow has been to give it a good sniffing. He probably knows there is something nice in there for him. Also, the friends I buy hexmas gifts for all have cats, so it makes sense to add some cat treats to the gift bags. And I can’t buy treats for other cats without buying some for our own.
Not much going on today, I have had a team meeting at which we had nothing good to talk about apart from throwing out ideas for what could replace our usual office collection for a local charity that does food and warm clothing distributions, plus how or what we collect/give to our office cleaner.
Two of our team are leaving at the end of the this semester too, they took advantage of a Voluntary Leaver Scheme which gave them something better than redundancy packages would have done. One of them is in poor health and only worked part-time, and the other was winding down to retirement so neither was a surprise. But we must also work out how best to mark their departures too.
Other than that, irk remains irksome. I have booked Friday off, just because I can. Looking forward to not logging into my work laptop…
Happy Hump Day!
No park this morning as it was 30 degrees outside. I stayed in bed an extra half hour and then took the brats straight to daycare.
Bathroom is still not done. The painting has started and damn does Killz stink. I’m not surprised the walls are taking so long, whoever the seller got to do the irk sucks. Everything looked good, but then when you get in and start messing around you find issues. My guy is slow, but he is anal about getting it right.
Shit ton of stuff to do today. Not looking forward to any of it though.
sari - your guy sounds like the handyman who my mom used for a number of years after dad died. Very meticulous and good at what he did - and he only charged $12/hr, even tho Mom tried to pay him more! Unfortunately, he moved away, and those of us who used to help her out are getting too old to do the heavy chores.
Still below freezing here. We’ll be leaving for MVA shortly - with luck, it’ll be quick, since they only do appointments and we got an early one. Fingers crossed…
Blurf.
Mor… uh… afternoon all! Tis another soggy grey day this side of the pond. I have washing on, have acquired some edible vegetation from the nice shop up the road, now considering going to buy some inedible vegetation for a stoodint project. In theory I should get the money back, and I do like going there, but I have a case of the dontwannas, mostly because my sleeping habits are even more wonky than usual right now.
Aww, cute ratties! I used to have a mousey that looked very like that Siamese rat. I hope I can get somewhere I’m allowed proper pets again soon. My axolotl’s cute 'n all, but he’s not exactly snuggly- the bees even less so. Annoyingly, most rental places in the UK don’t allow pets, sometimes if you can contact the landlord directly you can get permission for little ones like ratties, but agencies often just blanket ban everything.
Morning all. 38F outside heading for 62F, so planning to get out of house in a short while and get my shingles shot. Also need to stop at Krogers, normally when they have Pepsi 12-packs on sale it’s 4 for $12, the ad today said 4 for $11 (normally sale price is 3 for $11), so I need to see if it was a misprint or time to stockup (Lord knows I have enough Pepsi to keep me supplied through January, but a bargain is a bargain…
flyboy, glad the power is back on.
shoe, nappage is a good thing.
OK, need to make myself presentable and allow the nurses to stab me in the arm. All 'yall take care.
Mornin’ y’all. Doing better today. Once again the walls feel solid and the ground stable enough. It’s chilly here-- 50-ish-- and overcast, so it feels quite autumnal.
Spent a solid 12 hours in bed, with the exception of a middle-of-the-night bio break. Had an electric blanket plugged in and pressed against my sore arm. That felt good!
Big rat order is coming by tonight, so I need to move that one group out of their too-small bucket into a big tub where they can spread out & be easily counted. I shall hold back a few of the least skittish for myself (otherwise I lose that color line) and the rest are going to a reptile shop owner who’s delighted to be able to start breeding his own.
Only other big item for the day is to EAT A GOOD MEAL ferchrissakes. Nothing sounds good, but nibbling on snacks isn’t enough. It’s been days - weeks? - since I’ve had that satisfying, satiated feeling of having a full belly.
HA! Monkey has the zoomies, and just did a full “Tom Cruise in Risky Business” slide across the kitchen floor!
One thing living alone (after years with My Other Shoe and then my I.T. Guy) has taught me is … I’m not good at doing things just for myself. I can cook very well, but it’s how I express love for others; when it’s just me, it feels like too much bother.
Anyway, I’m trying to do a nice thing for myself every day, and this morning, I hung a suet feeder right where I (and the cats) can see it, next to the seed feeder. Now we haz two bird feeders! The decadence, y’all!
It made me feel good that I did something nice for myself, if that makes sense.

My first thought was Carson Napier, the hero of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Venus books.
Not particularly fond of Monster drinks, but Java Monster is much better than Starbucks and Dunkin bottled coffees!
Not scaring them off by telling them what the job is really like, are you?

Multimammate – what a concept! Cute little buggers, though – especially the Siamese. My sister-in-law used to have a rat (common garden-variety) named Yersinia.
I’ve had that on hold at the library for several weeks; just found out it’s in (along with the latest Meg Langslow mystery by Donna Andrews), so I’ll pick it up today. Now he needs to get hot on the sequel to Parcel of Rogues…
Hot water (valve on the boiler got rusted shut) and refrigeration (mouse got at the power cord) have both been restored.
Turns out since my name wasn’t on the bill of sale, it couldn’t be on the title and registration. What a pain in the patoot! We didn’t want to mess with having the dealer fax an amended bill of sale, so the car is just in FCD’s name. We can add me later… for a fee…
But that’s done. Shortly, I’ll head out to Food Lion. I need to check my navy bean soup recipe and make sure I have all the ingredients - that’s tonight’s supper. And after that, I’ll do the trash run.
Onward!!!
Makes perfect sense. One of my go-tos for something nice for myself is fun socks. I have some doozies. Waiting for the right moment are my two new In-lieu-of-Thanksgiving-dinner with family socks: russet background ones with slices of pumpkin pie and some taupe socks with turkeys strutting their party feathers.
ETA: I screwed up the quoting there. Tried to fix it to little avail. May I ask for a pass on this one? Wasn’t trying to alter Shoe’s words, just operating on too little sleep.

I’ve heard of Napier’s bones – probably in math or science class oh-so-many years ago – but had to look them up to see what they were.
Thanks for the earworm…
Rather busy today, with a whole bunch of missorts. It dropped down to the mid thirties, which made the quarter mile walk uphill both ways in the wind and snow to the employee lot while fighting off bears less than pleasant
You’ve tried?
.
So standing at the front gate with an ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE sign isn’t a fun way to welcome people? Huh.
