My arm was quite sore for a couple of days after my flu shot.
Funny, flu shots don’t seem to bother me. I’m set up for my shingles shot tomorrow, I’ll let you know how that goes.
shoe, thanks for the pics and lesson. I’m afraid that like many, when I hear ‘rats’, I think of the NY City sewer kind*, not the pretty ones you’ve showed us.
FCM, enjoy the quiet–for a little bit…
talky, good news on the Mom-unit. And good on ya for staying with her for a few days as she gets ‘re-acclimated’.
Thel, hope things go well. I can’t imagine what you go through, but I know enough to hope things get better. Oh, and {{{ }}}
flyboy, Monster Ultra Zero–that’s a pretty fancy name for a sugar-free drink.
Book has been acquired (for the curious, it’s 1637: No Peace Beyond the Line, the continuation of Eric Flint’s Ring of Fire series that now threatens to take over a second bookshelf and start on a third). Still need to do a couple of household things, but nothing major is on the schedule.
Everybody have a good 2sday afternoon…
- aka the third Indiana Jones movie…
Hot damn! I didn’t know that one was out yet. Hello, Amazon…
We’re being absolutely bombarded by spam calls this morning, for some reason. All from (supposedly) Oregon numbers. I’ve blocked at least six of them, and NomoRobo has killed a bunch of others, but it’s really annoying. What the hell do these assholes want, anyway?
Rat (don’t know if that’s the correct moniker): We got our Shingrix vaccinations last year. Some arm soreness was about the extent of it. I think the booster was worse than the initial poke.
Pre-ordered Obama’s new book for the Kindle. At $17.95, it’s more expensive than any other Kindle book I’ve purchased, but the Ms insisted on getting it.
His interview in The Atlantic will make you weep at the futility of, well, everything (especially in my current downer mood). But Obama is still optimistic, God bless him. In my next life, I’m going to be an optimistic person. Too late for this one.
I am American, just living in Switzerland, and my American dad made a set of Napier’s Bones for my husband some years back and they are on the bookshelf. My dad is a mechanical engineer with a love of history, so I think that’s how he came across them.
Shoe the siamese rat is adorable. Still don’t want to meet one in or around my home, though.
Here’s the thread from a couple of years ago: Creamsicle is sick [RIP Creamsicle]
Yep. But I want my low-carb Vitamin B + Caffeine + whatever!
As you may know, the West Seattle Bridge is closed because it’s falling down, and the Spokane Street Bridge (‘the low bridge’) is restricted to commercial, transit, and emergency vehicles. So my 10-minute drive to Trader Joe’s has turned into an odyssey as I go the long way round.
Today the drive to TJ’s was not horrible. (I left well before lunchtime.) When I got there, the tiny parking lot was not packed. Inside, it was not crowded. And for the bonus: They had a 12-pound brined turkey! w00+ wo0t! Yeah, I snapped that up right quick.
I called Mrs. L.A. to see if she wanted anything else (she didn’t, as I told her I already got her banana bread mix and bananas), and she said there was an explosion outside and the power was out. She didn’t seem interested in starting up the generator, bringing the lead inside, and plugging in the TV/cable/Internet (it’s all on one power strip), but she texted me as I was pulling into the office that she’d found PSE’s number. They estimate the power will be back on by 13:30. After the rather devastating storms last year, they’re doing a lot of work (building berms, etc.) along the beach. I’m only guessing, but I suspect one of the construction vehicles took out a transformer.
So glad to be here this rainy Tuesday. I had Internet woes, which I finally resolved. Before that, I got stucked by a lab tech. I’ve had so much lab work done, I’ve started requesting they use the right arm to give the left one a break. Techs love my right arm veins, which they say are beautiful (and to which I reply, “Thanks. I grew 'em myself.”), but they salivate over my left arm veins, so I keep ‘em covered. Anyway, piece o’ cake.
Thel, glad you got some good sleep. Anxiety is exhausting. We’re glad you’re here and want to hear from you, rain or shine. You, too, Boo. (Hey, I’m a poet!)
Dice, did you mean he retired from the Seattle medical center I went to a couple weeks ago? If so, how cool!
wordy, huzzah for mom getting sprung! I hope she makes the transition easily and that your bosses are understanding.
shoe, those are some cute rats.
Dot, glad you made another furry friend, even if you don’t get to keep him.
FCM, hope you can keep your distance from the potentially dangerous nephew. Any chance he’s mellowed out in the last few years?
I’m contemplating walking to the pharmacy to get part one of the two-part shingles shot. As I may have mentioned, docs think I may have had a weird concurrent case of shingles and chicken pox years ago. I have zero desire to go through that agonizing pain again. The timing to get vaccinated now would be good, as I had the flu shot a month ago and will have part two of the pneumonia vaccine in December. Maybe if the rain lets up…
Long nap. Arm hurts. Feel even crappier than when I lay down … just blah. Zero appetite, like nothing sounds good.
Some kid is screeching outside incessantly, too.
nellie - judging from what I’ve seen on FB, he’s as weird as ever.
We are now officially refinanced - YAY! Now I just need the info from the new mortgage company so I can set up on-line payments. Writing checks is sooooooo 20th century.
Roxy has gone home and I’m about to start peeling spuds for supper. The quiet is wonderful.
Thank you. Hey, and you are nice too, dammit!
As if 2020 hasn’t been enough of a shit year, I just got an email from my CU telling me that my credit card is compromised. . .AGAIN. A whole slew of bogus charges in the last couple of days, mostly for FB purchases, a couple for Tinder (now, there’s a laugh), and a real whopper for $5,000 to some bullshit church, which is pretty ironic, considering that I’m an atheist. Anyway, card cancelled, charges disputed, and now comes the clusterfuck of changing the billing on all accounts.
I got an email update from PSE. Now they’re saying they expect the power to be back on by 19:00. I expect to get home around 17:30.
Howdy Y’all! Today’s agenda included laundry, futzin’ around, nappage, and the makeage and etage of sup. We supped early today. Baked chikin boobs, peas, butterbeans ‘n okra cooked together, smashed N.O.T. with gravy, and rolls for those keepin’ score.
I agree with Bones as a nickname for Napier.
Wordy yay for maternal unit gettin’ sprung from the horsepistol. You are a good daughter. You deserve a .
Supper was good. I just finished bringing in my spider plants and my snake plant - there’s a chance of freeze tonight. I have to keep the spiders locked in the guest room - Taz will eat them and puke them up.
FCD rinsed the dishes, so I just need to load the dishwasher, then chillage shall ensue.
Evening all. Soup n Sammich are digesting peacefully as I type and the dishwasher is about an hour into it’s 219 minute cycle. U’wear that was washed Sunday has been sorted and put away so I have been moderately productive. Fought off nappage so an early bedtime is predicted.
FCM, spider and snake plants…a whole menagerie of vegetation…
Cookie, that’s why I check my credit cards weekly on-line, sometimes twice a week if I’m feeling paranoid. Haven’t had one breached in quite some time now, but most banks/CU’s are pretty good at detecting fraud these days.
flyboy, hope the power come back this evening.
quietly, I think it was released this week or late last. Good to know there’s another 1632 fan here.
OK, need to be about readin’ and internettin’. All y’all take care.
I’m glad that you got to get a temporary doggy fix dot. Once you’re in a better situation, some lucky pupper will be glad to have you.
I like the bones nick.
Yay for your mom getting sprung wordy!
silenus, I’ve always said that Nelson’s dog tags do more than give his contact info and vaccination status; they tell me where my little dog is.
shoe, you have some pretty ratties.
I got some stuff caught up at irk today. Then I came home, swept the laundry room, kitchen, bathroom and entry way and steam mopped the kitchen. I’s tah-red! Fixing to kick back in the studio this evening while binge watching Unwrapped this evening.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Wound up going back to bed, again, after that previous post. Sheesh. Just took a long, hot shower & feel restored enough to chat with you nice folks a bit.
Heating a cup of instant chicken ramen soup, because nothing more ambitious or filling sounded good yet. I did have a protein shake earlier, so my digestive tract isn’t totally empty.
In fact, imma have my (last! sob!) deviled egg half. There, that’s a solid dinner.
Didn’t have the wherewithal to scoop the litter box, but I did pour a bunch of clean litter into it, which counts for something.
Gonna play Plants vs. Zombies for a bit now. Y’all have a good night.
After I posted, they sent another email saying the power wouldn’t be on until 19:00, Later I got one where they basically said, ‘We don’t know when the hell your power will be restored.’ 17:30 now, and I’ve been home for half an hour. I started the genny and put an extension to the TV etc. Another one is going to my computer, Mrs. L.A.'s computer, and a living room light. Xfinity has their generator on top of the telephone pole, so we have Internet. I just hope the power comes back on before the fridge warms up. (I froze the turkey for a couple of hours at work.)
The next-door neighbour has COVID. Mrs. L.A. made a margarita run for him (tequila, mixer, and limes). He left cash in a baggie in the mailbox… and a disinfectant towel, which he undoubtedly used to handle it.
