It's Been A Long Time Coming.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but I thought it was worth sharing. I hope I’m not committing any of those faux pas things by posting the whole of this, but if so, I apologise in advance.

You’ve gotta love us Brit’s, eh?

No apostrophes in plurals, please!

(Is Tony Blair still PM? I thought he got turfed.)

Gah! I’ve just realised. The Tony Blair reference makes it really old. I hope I’m not posting up ancient history stuff?

Oh, forgive me. There should have been another apostrophe after the ‘s’, as in British. :stuck_out_tongue:

A quick search on google shows it goes back at least to 2004, after the last election. Which, when you think about it, makes sense since it was triggered by an election.

The date in rule #13 has just sunk in. It’s over 3 years old! Sorry if you’ve all come across it before, gang! :smack:

America to be given the exact same status as the Isle of Man? Interesting.

It’s people like you what cause unrest.

John Cleese also didn’t write it. There’s a clue early on, at the spot where not a word of the thing is funny. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Telemark. Knowledge 1 Ignorance 0. I’ll go and share that information with the site I found the piece on.

It’s probably a cultural thing, but I was in creases at parts of it.

Did you not read it?

“as you will be permitted to keep calling it until April 1st 2005”

It’s 2008, dude.

In any event, Tony Blair would have appointed George W. Bush as Minister of America in perpetuity. So it is hard to see what improvement would have resulted.

See above dude. Hey, it’s the 1st time I’d ever seen it and I was too busy laughing to notice the exact date. The fact that Tony Blair is no longer in power never even registered properly, because nothing has changed since he left.

Which parts, particularly? I didn’t bother to read the whole thing, but the half I got through was just a list of things that are different between the US and the UK. I mean, “You pronounce it ‘zee,’ but we pronounce it ‘zed,’” isn’t exactly what I’d call a great comedic insight.

Who cares if it’s old? If you’ve never seen it before the ‘oldness’ of it is irrelevant as long as the important stuff is there - language, sports, guns, electing bad presidents, etc etc…

If you can overlook the inherent insulting tone, it is funny. Especially if you’re not American.

My (mostly English-born) colleagues (who know first-hand what bible-belt Americans are like) certainly chuckled.

#'s 2,3,4,7,8,9,11,12, and 14. Oh, and 15 and 16.

I missed #4.

I guess it’s human nature to be unable to see the funny side if it’s personal.

I still thought it provoked some funny replies in the Snopes’ article ‘rebuttals’.
