It's Delivery Day! (Well, almost...we hope, anyway...)

What started in My Wife Is Pregnant, And The Baby Isn’t Mine… and continued in It’s Delivery Day! (Or is it…?) should reach a conclusion here. If all goes according to plan, Maya Lynn arrives tomorrow!

My wife is, to say the least, uncomfortable. The baby has been in lock-n-load position for weeks now, and her crotch hasn’t taken this much of a pounding since we <sorry…my wife proofread this and is making me delete the details of that night>. Time to evict the uterus-renter!

Now, setting things up for tomorrow took some doing. First, a bit of backstory: There are three doctors in the practice that my wife is using, and whichever one is on duty at the time is the one who will be doing the delivery. They are:
–Dr. B, who is completely on board with everything we’re doing – cool with the VBAC, all around the best doc in the practice.
–Dr. H, who is good too…he’s ok with Linda trying a VBAC, but isn’t thrilled about the idea.
–Dr. F, who is a repulsive wench. We’d rather have the baby in a taxi then have this woman in the delivery room.

So, Linda goes for her weekly appointment the other day and is told that we’re at the point now where it’s time to either get her water broken, or schedule a c-section. Ok, fine…she wanted this to be as natural as possible, but yeah, it’s time for this kid to make her appearance. C-section, however, is right out. Let’s set a date and time for some water breakage.

Unfortunately, the only upcoming times that would work for everyone involved would mean that Dr. F would be the one doing the delivery. Hell. No. However, Dr. B is on duty Saturday morning? How about then? “No”, we’re told, “the hospital doesn’t schedule deliveries for Saturday mornings”. Oh…well, damn. “However, if you were to, say, be having contractions and having a lot of back pain, then you should certainly get to the hospital. At about 9am Saturday morning would be an excellent time for this to happen. Wink wink.”

So, under doctors semi-orders, we’re gaming the system a little. If all going according to plan, then tomorrow’s update will have pictures of the newest (first?) Doper surro-baby!

Ugly choice of word.

Good luck with it all.

Fingers crossed, good thoughts sent, prayers going out for all!

Great! Linda has a few hours to rehearse her routine! Dampen her hair with some water to make her look all sweaty and stressed. “Yes, horrible back pain for the last 4 hours. Thank God it seems to have let up.”

Good luck to all three of you!

Good luck!

You know this is who you’re going to end up with, don’t you?

Just ran home to let the dog out before he peed all over the place.

Short version update: Been at the hospital since 9am, water broken shortly thereafter, low-dose pitocin administered around 3pm, followed by a couple of hours of very painful contractions. At 6:30 she was 7cm and 100% effaced, but the pain was getting to be too much. A dose of Nubain was put in her IV, but it really didn’t help. Finally, she had an epidural around 7:30. She’s now resting, getting ready for the big show coming up sometime in the next few hours.

Gotta run!

Hope the rest goes smoothly! Thanks for the update.

Oh an Update. Cool!

I hope everything goes well.

Report back when you can.

Best of luck. Let us know how it goes…

Ok, I’ve now been up for 24 hours…let’s see how my sleep-deprived brain handles this update.

I got back to the hospital at 8:30, and…argh…sorry, I can’t remember all the details now, so I’m just going to sum up: Several hours of laborious pushing, but she just wouldn’t come out. She was close, but she wouldn’t come all the way down the canal. At about 2:30am it became clear – it was time for a c-section.

Linda went under the knife at about 4:30am or so, and we found the reason Maya was getting stuck – she’s a ten-pounder!

So, M&M have their long-awaited daughter, Linda has all my love and respect for all she’s done for those two, and I have got to go get some sleep.

Hey, almost forgot – meet Maya Lynn!

Oh wow. She is beautiful. Thanks for the update and get some sleep.

Happy Birthday Maya Lynn!

Welcome, Maya Lynn! Glad to hear she’s arrived. Congrats to M&M! Best wishes to Linda and you as well.

Wow! Beautiful girl. Isolettes need to come in a bigger size!

Give your lovely brave wife a big (gentle) cuddle, she’s done a wonderful thing.

Oh my god, that’s a big baby! No wonder, indeed!

Congratulations to M&M, Hal and Mrs. Hal, and of course, gorgeous Maya Lynn.

(pssst…"Isolette " means it’s got a cover and can provide temperature control. At my hospital, those are called “open beds”, and healthy babies do just fine in them. I seriously don’t think she *would *fit in an Isolette!)

That’s one big baby!!!
Welcome Maya ! (She’s gorgeous!)

My bad, I just saw the plastic sides and the electrode and assumed. Well babies here don’t get electronic monitoring and babies with electronic monitoring don’t get open cots. That’ll teach me not to pay attention!

Congrats to all concerned.

Oh, wow! She’s a big one!

Congrats to you both, and to her dads. You guys are doing an amazing thing.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Hi Maya!
