It's Dubya to the rescue!

Great googly moogly. Is this going to be the shitshow I think it will be? Does the “Republican elite” really think they can paint this turd gold? Will Der Trump laugh and laugh at them?

Is there another link, or can you give us a rundown? The NY Times wants me to subscribe.

God, there’s not enough popcorn in the world to sustain us for the next five months.

Sorry. Young Master Bush is “throwing himself into the effort” to save vulnerable Republican senators – the estimable John McCain, the cuddly Kelly Ayotte, for example – by making speeches and raising money. He thinks it’s vital to keep the Senate in Republican hands.

The Times article goes on to relate how Bush’s “standing is rising” among Americans of limited memory and intelligence, and how “elite Republicans” are eager to get back in line to lick Bush ass.

Also that Bush doesn’t bother to keep up on the affairs of the day like, say, Bill Clinton, but HAS noticed that Trump has been mean to his family’s legacy.

Didn’t we already see what kind of clout Dubya had in his brother’s campaign?

Fool me once, shame on…shame on you.

I think I hear McConnell packing up his stuff and vacating the Senate Majority Leader office. Why not avoid the rush?

He may not bring a lot of votes but I have no doubt he can help them raise money, which this mostly seems to be about. A former President sells tickets.

That’s my take, too… I know it’s trendy here to laugh at whatever the Bush family does, but this is how parties work, and if Bush can help, why would they not take advantage of it?

[/QUOTE] YEEEEAAAaAHHHHHH!

Because Bush will annoy Trump. Trump will get mad and start firing wildly at Bush. The Establishment will watch in horror. The rest of us will watch in… well, BYOE(motion).

I see what you did there.

Saving the Republican Senate majority is crucial. Any money Bush can raise is a blessing.

If Trump continues to self-destruct then the only hope we have is keeping the Republican Senate majority. They can minimize the damage Hillary does.

Quoth the article:
Mr. Bush announced through a spokesman last month that he would not support Mr. Trump’s candidacy and would not attend the Republican convention in Cleveland next month. His father, former President George Bush, and his brother Jeb Bush, who was defeated and ridiculed by Mr. Trump in the primary campaign, are also staying away.

It has been a painful year for the Bushes, as Mr. Trump has not only upended the party that they dominated for decades but has done so by publicly repudiating the 43rd president’s legacy. Mr. Trump denounced the 2003 invasion of Iraq as a foreign policy disaster, blamed Mr. Bush for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and painted his presidency as a failure.
The image that immediately comes to mind is two monkeys throwing feces at each other. And a fine and fitting image it is, too.

What to you mean by “we”, Paleface?

Here’s as much as I can give under fair use:
*After eight years of largely abstaining from politics, former President George W. Bush is throwing himself into an effort to save his party’s most vulnerable senators, including several whose re-election campaigns have been made more difficult by Donald J. Trump’s presence at the top of the ticket.

In the weeks since Mr. Trump emerged as the party’s presumptive presidential nominee, Mr. Bush has headlined fund-raisers for two Republican senators and has made plans to help three more. Among them are Senators John McCain of Arizona, who was one of Mr. Trump’s earliest targets of derision, and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, who has struggled to respond to Mr. Trump’s inflammatory talk.

Friends say that the former president is deeply bothered by Mr. Trump’s campaign message, especially his derogatory remarks about Muslims and immigrants. At the event with Mr. McCain, Mr. Bush stressed the importance of preserving the Republican-held Senate as a “check and balance” on the White House, suggesting that such a check was needed, whether the next president is Mr. Trump or Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee.

What damage do you have in mind, that would distinguish her Admin from the highly successful and beneficial Admins of Bill and Obama?

IIRC, George W. Bush has a 52% approval right right now, and he’s generally popular with business interests. I’m not sure why getting him to try to raise money for you if you are in a tight race is such a bad idea at the moment.

Guns. As long as sensible people control the Senate, we won’t be getting any gun bans or other foolishness.

There are other stupid, horrible, and very bad things she is likely to want to do, and I hope to see them quashed as well, but the fight is about guns.
