I found this very difficult to believe, but apparently it’s true. Talk about short attention span.
GUNS! GUNS! GUNS!
We certainly don’t want to see any foolishness like background checks to prevent unstable lunatics from having FREEDOM! The freedom of mentally ill people to own guns is clearly the only important thing in this coming election.
Exactly. While it is fun to laugh at this, you can be sure the DNC is taking this seriously. Bush will raise serious amounts of money, therefore making the Democrats life harder.
I think you would be very interested in this outfit. I believe you would find their ideas intriguing and should ask to subscribe to their newsletter.
Now that he’s not launching invasions he’s back to being the guy you’d like to have a beer with. Why hold a grudge?
Putting this in perspective though, a party normally expects the presidential candidate to help raise money for the lower ticket race, a job which Trump has shown absolutely no interest in. So it’s really Bush trying to pick up the slack. Clinton (both Bill and Hillary) plus Obama is a much more formidable fund raising team than is Bush on his lonesome.
I think part of it is people who have a negative view of Obama (and especially the ACA), and part of it is horror at the current state of the Republican Party and remembering Bush’s constant defense of Muslims (in general) and generally pro-immigrant rhetoric.
I think the torturer Bush is more suited to being a greeter at Walmart, but if being a scalper keeps him busy, that’s fine too.
These being the same sensible people who refuse to hold a hearing on the SCOTUS nominee and automatically oppose anything President Obama does because Obama.
Yeah, nice try.
…when you can throw a shoe…?
I know, but I don’t want people to think everything the Republicans are doing is going to cost them the race. A lot of people are very complacent while I’m not even sure that Hillary will be running against Trump come September.
Regardless, Dubya can raise 9 figures by the time he’s done, regardless of how history views his administration, and an additional $100+ million into the Senate race coffers is nothing to sneeze at.
Nothing changes that for the last two elections cycles, Bush’s own party’s candidates wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole! Stump for other republicans? No one wanted him. Some wouldn’t even say his name!
If he’s ready to crawl out from wherever he’s been hiding, all these years, (for a few more slams, I expect!), I reckon he should have a try and see how it feels, at last!
Because I doubt it will last long, and I can’t imagine a chance will come along again if the party manages to implode.
I don’t think he’ll get a lackluster response from the Repubs, though. I think they’ll look at this as a lifeline.
The Republicans are demonstrating they can’t even run the Republican Party without destroying it. Why on Earth should we want them to continue to run Congress?
Yes, god forbid we have basic and reasonable constraints on who can own a gun like all those other first-world countries have. God forbid we check people to ensure that they aren’t domestic abusers, don’t have a history of mental illness, and aren’t suspected terrorists before we give them the kind of arsenal they could use to kill 50 people and injure 50 more. I can only imagine the horrifying consequences - we might actually not have more mass shootings per year than days! That would be awful for our reputation! We might lose our title of “gun violence capital of the western world”.
Give Bush credit where it’s due. Sure, he may have been the worst President the country ever had. But he’s still better than Trump.
Without intending an insult to him, that seems to me an extremely high estimate of GWB’s fundraising ability. The article mentions that these particular 5 fundraising events are expected to raise hundreds of thousands - it would take a shitload of them to get to 100 million.
Possibly, depends upon how hard he goes (which, I guess, doesn’t bode well for my prediction as he wasn’t the hardest worker in US government history ).
And I did read that line, but I read it as saying “hundreds of thousands (for each candidate)”… however, it could also be construed as “hundreds of thousands (in total)”. If the former, 9 figures is possible. If the latter, probably not.
Regardless, there are a lot of donors who want to give money, but they don’t know who to give it to. This will help them concentrate their funds on something positive, allowing them to let Trump wither on the vine while still supporting the party.
Exactly. This is going to be a lot more work than Bush has done in eight years, possibly sixteen. If he makes it through all five events he’ll be itching to get back to the suburbs and his shows and his pretzels and painting pictures of his naked ass.
Thinking that the GOP is comprised of sensible people is downright goofy.
