It's Moanday So Here Is The New MMP

Dammit, now I want it, and I do NOT need to try to be building Lego with a cat who insists on “helping” with everything I do and who thinks anything she can get her paws on is a great kitty toy.

Woke stoopit early, but I opted to read in bed (the Y volume in the Kinsey Millhone series) until I couldn’t stand my nasty morning breath any longer. So toofies is brushed, doggie is fed, kittehs got some wet food, and I’m starting caffeination.

It appears last night’s snow mostly turned into rain. The ground and most hard surfaces are just wet. There’s maybe an inch of snow on the patio furniture. When I let Higgs out, it looked to be a mixture of rain and snow. I’m pretty sure we won’t be seeing 10" of white death, so there’s that. The shovels shall remain dry.

I pulled 2# of butter out to soften - for a double batch of oatmeal cookies, a batch of chocolate chip cookies, and a batch of snickerdoodles. I’m thinking I’ll mix then up today and let them chill, then bake tomorrow, hoping for better results than the last time I made cookies. I intend to do these the old-fashioned way - mixing entirely by hand. So that butter will be reeeeeeeeally soft before I start!

Onward into the day - Happy Saturday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 47. Some more rain is predicted this mornin’ and then it shall allegedly be N.O.S. this afternoon. We shall see. No big plans for the day for either of us. I foresee a day of chillin’ in da cave. At some point dawgs shall get grilled for scramble dawgs. That will either be for N.O.L. or suppage dependin’ on when the mood strikes. It’s willy-nillly like that today.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, well who knows!

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Two biggies for today.

First, it’s our 34th anniversary! Not bad, considering we dated only 4 weeks before eloping.

Second, tonight’s the company Christmas party - how nice of them to celebrate us!   Plus I don’t have to make supper, so there’s that, too. Just gotta decide on appropriate attire. That’s the tough part.

Happy Anniversary, FCM & FCD! Thirty-Four years and many more to go, I hope.

batboy, hope the opportunity you mention works out OK for you.

26F this morning. Ugh. Need to break fast and get dressed for soccer from 9-5.

FCD, my condolences, Sir.

Yaay FCM FCD!!! We’re coming up on 30 in a couple more months. Your cookie plans sound wonderful.

Our day dawned warm but pregnantly humid with solid clouds to the NW. The rain has just started now and the daily high of 79 just ended. The AC has just quit. It’ll be mid-60s in a couple hours and we’ll be heating by sunset if not before. Wife is already planning her sweaters for the next few days. She knit so many when we lived in a place with real winter & she relishes every chance to pull them out and show them off.

Aged MIL is well; she’s now ret-conned the last few years of her medical history to have no deterioration at all; it was all just a false alarm. IOW, her morale is sky high. Kids!

Happy anniversary Mooooom and FCD!

It was 31F when I took Nelson out this morning. Brrrrrr! The weather guys last evening were joking about all of the snow going south of us.

Breakfasted, caffeinating, towels and puppy accroutrements in the wash, puppy [ded]jail[/del] crate cleaned and sanitized. As soon as the dishes are done and I’m purtified, I’ll go to the PO to mail packages. If it warms up some, I may take Nelson to the dog park before he goes to get groomed.

Happy Anniversary to the **FairyChats[/b! MOOOOOOM I suggest a trip to :eek:Wally*World. I’m sure you can find sump’n both spectacular and seasonal to wear tonight.

We have purtified and brekkied. However, I still want sump’n to eat. Mayhaps some yogurt and 'nanner will do the trick.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Sheets are changed on the bed, and the critters are fed. I’m gonna make French Toast for brunch today.

Happy FairyChataversary!!!

Appropriate attire:smiley:

Raining, wind blowing hard and temps dropping. Yes, winter has arrived in the Keys.

Tis a good day to stay indoors.

**doggio **- um, I don’t think that attire will work. :stuck_out_tongue:

Back from breakfasting and erranding. We ran into **BBBobbio **at Bob Evans - I almost didn’t recognize him: “Who the heck is that waving at me??”

We got our $10 gifts for the crazy Christmas exchange and we still need to round up 2 white elephants. We’ve already picked out one.

First load of laundry is in the washer, 2 more to go. Shortly, I’ll start mixing cookies. It was snowing rather intensely when we were in California, but here in our neck of the woods, it seems to have stopped. The forecast is now down to an inch. As we drove, we saw lots of plows standing by - I’m pretty sure they won’t be used.

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes. It’s weird to think I’ve been married more than half of my life!

All righty then. First load of clothes is in the dryer, second in the washer, and batches of chocolate chip and snickerdoodles are mixed up and in the fridge. After I swap out the laundry loads, I’ll commence to mixing up the oatmeal cookies.

Mixing by hand is hard work, but I’m hoping it’ll make for better cookies than mixing with the mixer. We shall see…

Happy Fairychatversary!

Tried making a start on the Christmas shopping, but failed. There was a Food Fair on in a local village, which sounded good, so I went to that. Unfortunately, everyone else thought it sounded good as well, and it was heaving with people, I couldn’t get near most of the stalls in the tent, it was penguin huddle density, with shuffling room only.

We’re cutting down a lot on presents this year anyway, what with me being a poor student, and my brother being voluntarily unemployed while he tries a career change. Still, I have to get something, so I think I’ll have to make a proper trip into one of the Big Towns some time in the next week.

And the oatmeal cookies are all mixed. After the laundry is done, I’ll bake the oatmeal batch, adding raisins after half the dough is used up. Tomorrow will be chocolate chip and snickerdoodles.

Yaay Cookies!! Party at Mooms!

Down 'round here the rain has stopped, the temp has settled around 65F, and it’s still gray. Oh well. Supposed to be crisp and clear tomorrow behind the front.

I’ve just returned from a groc run and have started a big batch of chicken cacciatore-like stuff. Brown a few lbs of thighs in sweated onions & garlic, then add the typical fixin’s for spag sauce, simmer an hour-ish to finish cooking the chix, and serve a thigh & sauce straight up or over a small pile of pasta or even rice. Freeze the rest in bags of two for quickie dinners.

At the moment the onions & garlic are sweating and the kitchen smells wonderful. If a little hard on the eyes.

Last 2 sheets of oatmeal raisin cookies in the oven. I LOVE parchment paper!! Why didn’t someone tell me about it eons ago?!?!?

I’m packaging a bunch of the cookies to go to FL with us, but leaving a few for random noshing.

How does one sweat onions and garlic? I’m visualizing a teeny, tiny vegetable gym…

Happy Fairychatversary!
How do you plug in the mixer & turn it on & why doesn’t that count as making them by hand?

I thought one was supposed to wear sumpin’ spectacular & seasonal to WallyWorld

Like this.
Set the alarm for dark:30 to get my required outdoor training activities in before the snow started. Went out to Home Despot for something & then stopped at the grocery sto so that I could eat something other than frozen food. Got a four-pack of assorted muffins, one, heated & buttered, along with a yogurt became sustenance for afternoon’s training. - After about 9 hours combined sleep the past two nights, I spent a good part of the afternoon in training…for the Olympic Napping Team. Consequently, I just ate lunch recently. Dinner later…or just another muffin or two??? Time will tell.

Get a pan to medium warm, maybe 5-6 of 10 on the knob. Once the pan’s near temp, add oil or butter & when the lube is warm/liquified, add the diced onions & garlic. You want it to cook slowly & get soft and translucent, not cook quickly & get brown.

Quick & brown & noisy is “sautee”; slow & translucent & barely hissing is “sweat”.

With sweating after 8-10 minutes the onions will start to darken. That’s the cue to remove them from the pan, where you’ll find just bit of thick liquid left over and a hint of fond, browned onion dust & juice in the bottom. Loosen that up with a spatula and then sautee the chix in that. The first chix want to go skin side down so you quickly get some chicken fat in there to keep everything lubed.

I do the whole thing in a large dutch oven, so it ends up using few tools and making very little mess. I luvves me an easy cleanup.

Today has been a gray, windy, dark and depressing kind of day. Plus the temp is 69F going way down overnight. Just not a usual day in Sunny Southernmost Florida.

I have managed to do squat today. Hubby went in search of oysters for stew. I have a gnawing and craving for potato salad so that shall happen.

Happy anniversary to the Chats. We celebrate 34 this Year too on New Year’s Eve. Tax write off.
