It's Monday Morning So This Must Be The MMP

Pooped and sweaty. Daughter and I took the hacked forsythia to the mulch pile at the dump, then ran by WalMart for some miscellaneous stuff. Doggies have been fed. Jeans are in the washer. I need to shower, and I’ve got a big pile of laundry to fold. Daughter is organizing her mega-closet.

Found out future ex is hanging in town till Friday, which is his payday, so he’ll have money to go home with. Daughter just found several of his textbooks - I think she’s going to get them to him so he can sell them back.

Did I mention I’m pooped? And stinky? Maybe I should shower before I do anything else…

FCM I miss forsythia soooo much! It will grow here, but it won’t bloom due to the discrepancy between temperatures and day length. I would have loved to take your hacked off branches and put them in vases to force. Lilacs here don’t bloom until July, my crocus are blooming, but everything else is barely waking up. I will have daffs and tulips in late June/early July as well.

May 1st and we have been getting snow squalls all morning. I can’t wait to move back to real weather.

Oh, again to FCM and anyone else who might care, I plan on staying on Kodiak for two more years as my son will graduate then. He doesn’t want to leave his friends, and I don’t blame him. I was yanked around to different schools during jr. and high school, and it really sucked. If not for that reason, you bet I would be hella outta here already. Alaska has been an experience I would not have missed for the world, but the time has come for me to move on to the next adventure.

Heh, one of my suitors and I fell asleep while talking on the phone last night, and I woke up with the phone on the pillow…makes me feel teenager-ish. Which is not a bad thing!

Okay, I need to get something done besides writing emails and listening to Irish music. Happy May Day y’all!!!

**kai **- the forsythia have already bloomed and have leafed out, so you wouldn’t have been forcing anything, alas. And now all I’ve got is a row of sticks… Plus tons of volunteers, some of which I will transplant to barer sections of the hedge. Tomorrow. When I’m rested.

Daughter is cleaning like crazy, finding stuff the future ex left behind, purging stuff for Goodwill, and tossing trash. Two friends are coming over to do a campfire tonight, and the wedding candle will go into the flames. Her wedding dress is in the guest room closet - she’s going to have it cleaned, then try to sell it. She’s really purging.

**FCD **had some soup, but he said his stomach is feeling a bit iffy again. Poor baby. He’s lost more than 10# the last 2 days and he’s just whipped. I’ve been trying to get him to drink more water, but he says everything tastes funny. I’m so afraid I’m going to get this bug. :frowning: Plus he’s suffering so. Poor sweetie.

One more load in the dryer, then I’m done with laundry, except for a few things that can wait a few more days. I need a good night’s sleep…

On the walk from the building to the car, the wind picked up – it’s really windy anyway – right in my face. As if it was blowing me back to work. As if. Ha! My time is now my own until next Saturday!

Hope FCD feels better soon. I’ll bet the reorganizing and cleaning out is doing your daughter a lot of good, FCM.

Happy vacation, snowbunny!

The falling asleep on the phone made me smile, kai.

So…I’ve been to the plant sale, worked for a while and also bought some plants. The perennials have all made it into the ground already. Go me! Found some really nice things that I’d been wanting to try for a while.

We’re also trying to figure out how to go on a cruise with my mom and some cousins and other family in June. My cousin can get a big discount, so it’s wouldn’t be as expensive as otherwise. Still not sure if we can swing it, though.

Off to do some laundry.

GT

Since I’ve been gone, we lost internet AGAIN. Grrrrrr. It’s back, but Comcast sucks.

In jammies. Clean. Very tired, but got a lot done. Need to get more done, but not today. Enjoy your Saturday night, folks.

Finished another class! I finished off the last project for my independent study and the presentation of everything. So that’s ready. I just have five story spark cards to do, which I’m hoping to finish Sunday and Monday, and the flash website, which may kill me.

I have a question after a bit of background.

The church where GilaMonster attends had a thank you dinner for all the volunteers, all 200 of them. Guess how many of them volunteered to help GilaMonster do all of the cooking (she volunteered her time)? That’s right… Zero. As a result, I (who do not attend this church) spent 5 1/2 hours helping to assemble the dinner components. If I’d have had more time available, I would have helped her more. I’m really aggravated by this situation. My question is this: Other than helping her, is there anything else I can do? I’m thinking something like writing a note to the pastor because this isn’t the first time that I’ve been the only one around to help her with large church gatherings (the last one was for 250). Or, should I just keep my mouth shut and continue to volunteer my time? I don’t think it’s fair to GilaMonster but due to several things including the fact that Mr. GilaMonster works for the church, I think she feels that she doesn’t really have any other choice but to take on these huge amounts of work whether she wants to or not.

What say you, mumpers?

I say you should contact the pastor, yes. Mind you: right now my mother is in the middle of a riffraff at her own churchy volunteer thing, so I’m kind of in the mood to knock on a few priestly-type skulls (hitting the bishop with a silver-on-steel candlestick wouldn’t be polite, would it?)

I say you should stop volunteering - They (the congregants, not necessarily the pastor) have come to expect you to jump in like that because you’re GM’s friend. It’s not your church, your time is valuable; when you talk to the pastor, mention to him that you will have to start charging the church for your services (which includes giving you the time you need to do things the way you like) That more than anything will get him to light a fire under his flock. I also think you should bring GM with you when you talk to him.

Good morning - Sunday morning. I’m up and caffeinating and have had a bit of brekkie as well.

Sticky, surely the pastor must already be aware that GilaMonster (btw, -whereever- did you come up with that name?! LOL) has been doing this work on her own/with just your help? If not, yes, you should make him/her aware of it. Then he needs to fix the situation immediately by figuring out some other way of “rewarding” -all- volunteers. Because it is not right for GM to have to work on her own (and everyone else’s!) thank you meal. Of course, who am I to talk … I haven’t been to church in years. One idea: divide the volunteers into groups, give each group several volunteer chores to do, then rotate the chores between groups from month to month or week to week. Hope this is helpful.

FCM, the only time I came within a whiff of having “use or lose” leave was before my first child was born, back in 1982. LOL I’m hoping to have enough credit time to take the Friday before Memorial Day, when I also have to go in for a bone density test–thus making it a four day weekend. To say I’m really looking forward to this is still an understatement!

Had a great day yesterday - got to the Indian grocery store, got a bunch of stuff I was looking for (well, except for tandoori paste, cause I forgot!) although still no more chili cheese fritos (omg, they are so good … bad for you though!). Today brings a trip to the grocery store.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend…or the start of their work week, as the case may be. Sorry about that, folks!

Good morning! Another good night’s sleep, for me, anyway. I was so dead, I slept straight thru, and I have no idea if my sweetie was up half the night or not. I know he got up at some point, because the TV in the living room was on. The cable box was off, but I could see by the glow that he’d put the remote down before the TV-Off signal transmitted… Oh well.

Looks like we had a sprinkle of rain last night, and it’s overcast right now. We’ve got a front coming tomorrow that’s supposed to bring real rain and a temperature drop - yay for opening windows again!

I just now remembered part of a dream I was having - I was riding a bike in a snow-thunderstorm. Very weird. Not as weird as the part where my sister was eating live eels to win some contest. ick. And if you knew this particular sister, you’d know how bizarro that dream was - can you say “picky eater”??

I have a few bulbs I’d like to get into the ground today, plus I want to feed the forsythia sticks. And I need to make a trash/recycling run. Other than that, I think I’m going to chill today. Daughter asked for burgers on the grill - I think that might work, after I clean the grill and make some burgers.

And tomorrow, I get to go back to work. Oh goody!!

If you plant a light bulb, does a lamp grow?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ on a very muggy and cloudy mornin’. Feels like summer out there!

Rosie depends on what kind of bulb. If you use those teardrop/candle lookin’ bulbs you could grow a chandelier.

StickyBuns GilaMonster’s situation sucks for sure. I can’t imagine doin’ all the work myself and I do a fair amount of volunteer cookin’ and such at church. Then again I’m all bossy and have no problem with callin’ folks up and sayin’ I need you to do such and such. IMO GilaMonster should advise the Minister of the need for help because it is her church. You’re a good person for helpin’ btw.

Wow, today is brunch Sunday and I’m not havin’ to stick sump’n in the oven. It’s all done and ready to go! Go me!

No No No! No more chandeliers! I’ve had enough chandeliers in my lifetime!!

Household is still asleep. I’ve had a diet coke and some peanut butter toast. It’s still dreary looking outside, but warm.

Tomorrow, our bi-weekly cleaners are coming, so I need to put some things away in the not-to-be-cleaned rooms. I also need to remember to write a check and leave it on the counter. That’s the biggie. And load the dishwasher. And put my knitting out of the way… eeeesh, so much for chillin’ - it’s so difficult being me… <whine whine whine>

All purtified for deheathenization and awaitin’ OYKW to get purtified. Brekkie was cereal. It’s brunch Sunday so we can eat good then.

I should also work on defilthyfication of da cave this afternoon. We shall see.

Irish Boyfriend’s father passed away this morning, so it’s off to Belfast for us tomorrow night. Just came back from dropping Olive off at my parents’. Tomorrow I’ll have to go into work and tell 'em I’ll be gone for a bit. Thank God my job is flexible.

{{{Haze}}} - I know this wasn’t a big surprise, but I know it’s difficult all the same. Peace to you all.

{{{{{Haze}}}}}

I was blessed at St. Bluegills this morning. Posted FB pictures of only the ones I’d keep (I didn’t); caught about a dozen all together. I’m sure if I take a bucket with me to actually keep some next time, I won’t catch any ever again…

Sorry about IB’s father, Haze. Condolences to the whole family.

Glad you’re getting close, STG. I’m sure you’ll make it through the flash just fine.

I agree with rosie that you should have a talk with the pastor about having to charge them for your services, but I think you should keep **GM **out of the conversation since her husband works for the church and she’s a member. I also agree with swampy that drafting volunteers is an effective way to get help. In my volunteering experience, people are usually afraid to take on something large or to be leaders, so if you (i.e. GM and the pastor) can break the tasks down to something manageable, you’re more likely to get someone to pitch in.

The live eels made me giggle, FCM.

Am doing laundry and considering purtification…Also, need more caffeine.

Hugs all.
