It's perfect out

Today’s predicted max is 38C. Too hot for me.

It’s been low-60sF here in the High Desert. Clear and still, unlimited visibility: good running weather!

My eyelids froze together this morning on my way to class.

The tour is going through Santa Cruz this year and everyone is crossing their fingers for good weather too. Businesses that depend on tourism revenue are hoping that it will make up for a dismal Christmas. We really do need more rain though or there will be more rationing down in town again. Luckily I’m sitting on an aquifer in the hills that never runs dry.

Two consecutive nights of snow. My job, when it snows, is to go drive around and advise the superintendent. Which means two consecutive nights of 2-3 hours of sleep.

Which means two nights of snow on my driveway since I hadn’t had a chance until today.

So, lets say 10-12 total inches of snow in two days.

Right now it’s 5 degrees. It’ll colder tonight, and I can hear the wind banging the side of my house.

We’ll have wind chills somewhere in the 30-40 below region.

I hate you and your beach. May the beach rise up and swallow you.

Unless you fly me out there, then I lift my curse.

I’ve been having the best time ever. I love walking through the snow, and I love walking while it’s snowing, so today was a double bonus. I have fun stomping and jumping into slush puddles. I shuffle around at the bus stops and leave designs and words in the snow.

I overdressed this morning, though, and got kinda sweaty on the way to the eye doctor’s office. I forgot the below zero weather wasn’t coming until later tonight and it was actually around 15F. I had to pull my scarf off and unbutton a little to cool off!

I love, love, love winter. I get a happy peaceful feeling when I’m walking at night and the snow’s all sparkly and it’s all muffled and quiet. So nice.

It’s 86 degrees in LA and I’m not at all happy about it. I moved away from Hawaii so that I could experience seasons. I want a winter, dammit. I can’t wait for it to get cold again.

I’m terribly jealous.

It’s 21[sup]o[/sup] F out, but the wind chill is making it feel like it’s 10.

But it’s beautiful. We have about 6 inches of snow now, but it’s super-light and clinging to trees and bushes and it’s really clean because it just fell, so it looks artificial.

And I didn’t even have to deal with the tediousness of shoveling. A couple of kids stopped by about 45 minutes ago and cleared the walk and driveway entrance out for me.

It’s been gorgeous for the past several days, but really…we need rain. Rain rain rain!

Expecting -18F tonight. Without wind chill.

I fucking loathe, detest, despise and deplore winter.

And just you never mind why I live in Minnesota.

Current temperature in Toronto: -14C. Expected temperature tomorrow morning: -20C. The snow ain’t goin’ anywhere.

-15 when I got in the car this morning, but it warmed up to -11 by the time I got to work. No wind though, so it doesn’t feel too bad.

ETA: I was taken aback by the cold weather being the top story on the news from Burlington last night, with like four reporters covering various aspects of it. It’s northern Vermont in January and it’s not like it’s unexpected.

It’s colder outside this morning than it is in my deep freeze. This was the first morning I did the trick of starting the car, turning the heater on full and then going back inside for a few minutes to let some parts of it warm up before beginning the drive in to work.

It didn’t help much.

It’s cold here. And the worst part for me is, my Luna cat has a urinary tract infection, and peed on my warm parka earlier this week. I suspect a parka smelling of cat pee wouldn’t be acceptable under most office dress codes, so I’m having to wear my jacket instead until I can get my parka cleaned. Brrrr. I wish I could wear my parka.

Speaking of parkas, I finally broke out my coldest weather coat, the Lands End Squall Parka that’s supposed to keep me warm to -20 over layering pieces. Good thing, since it was -22 in the car this morning. I thought I had warmed him up but had to pull over and let him putter for a little longer to be able to drive without weirdness. It’s now 3, so much better.

It’s -26C right now (in Ottawa), but sunny - just got in from a walk. NEED the sunglasses. The cold air into the lungs is refreshing, the crystal clear sightlines through perfectly dry air is awesome, too. So, for January in a particularly cold snap, I’d say perfect here, too!

I live at 2000’ so the beach is going to have to rise up awfully far before I get swallowed. It sounds like I’m about to have a pool party in the other weather thread so you can come but you have to pay your own plane fare.
