This is ridiculous. It’s March 16th and it’s snowing. And it’s not just a couple of flakes, it’s really coming down and it’s windy to boot. Anyone else have the pleasure of witnessing a snowstorm in the middle of March or is it gorgeous everywhere else in the world except for here?
Don’t know where you are, Kid_A, but here in Maryland I was awoken this morning when one of my roommates sqealed, “Oh look, snow!” Sure enough, we had some snowfall, though it’s all melting now.
Been snowing for about three hours here in Northern NJ, not supposed to stop anytime soon. Weather.com is predicting 4-8 inches. I wouldn’t mind if maybe the Powers That Be would let us go home for inclement weather.
Happy Spring.

Central Colorado Rockies here.
We got a foot of snow on Monday night. I had to plow yesterday to get home.
Actually, it is gorgeous. We need the snow, and hopefully, we will continue to get it through April. Otherwise, we are going to be in trouble from fires this summer.
I’m with you Kid_A. It is the middle of March, and there is snow on the ground. Sure it’s nice up in the Rockies, but I DON’T WANT SNOW! If I wanted snow when spring break was only a week away, I would move into the mountains. Hmph.
yup, nasty snowing and icky outside in mid-michigan…
Good stuff…
The weather here is nothing short of magnificent. The sun is shining, there is no wind, it’s warm enough to walk outside wearing a T-shirt (and of course keks, et al), I haven’t seen snow since December and everything is pretty much great.
And I’m in Iceland. It’s a funny old world, no?
There are a few, albeit not very heartening, advantages to post-ides of March snowfall.
-
No need to buy ice for the beer coolers during you St Patty’s day party tomorrow. You can just stick the bottles into the nearest snowdrift in the backyard.
-
All the hardware stores and home centers that had an overstock of rock salt & snow shovels will get one last chance to liquidate their inventory before searching for summertime storage. The same rule applies for apparel retailers who still have winter clothing in stock.
-
All the lazy procrastinators who still haven’t taken their Christmas lights down will have very festive looking houses.
-
I get one more chance to laugh at all the cocky SUV drivers who lost control of their vehicles and slid off the road on my way home tonight.
-
The car wash guys will be making more in tips by the time the weekend rolls around.
-
It’s less likely we’ll be hearing about water shortages and droughts this summer.
-
That stupid rodent in Punxsutawney PA was right again.
-
Cold and snowy weather keeps the muggers at bay.
-
Your stock in Starbucks are more likely to go up.
-
Plenty of overtime pay for sanitation workers.
Here in da UP, the only signs of Spring we’ve had is a slight wamth to the air on some days. By “slight warmth” I mean that it gets into the mid-30s more often, and we’ve had at least one day that was in the 40s.
On the other hand, it got down to 7 degrees last Friday night.
There’s still a good 3 to 4 feet of snow on the ground in my yard. In addition, it’s snowed just about every day that I can remember. Some days more, some days less, but it’s been snowing.
It’s still winter here, big time.
It just stopped (temporarily?) snowing here in Central NJ. I’m typing this in school (no early dismissal, though math club trip was canceled). Then again, our superintendant lives in Buffalo and can’t seem to wrap his mind around the fact that New Jersians can barely drive in regular weather, let alone in snow. Grrr!
South-central Ohio here. It was snowing all morning. We got a light dusting last night. A few schools were closed. My school ended up dismissing about an hour into the day because the power went out.
I’m in Central Ohio, myself. It’s been snowing all day. Ecch.
Looking out the window now, it seems to have stopped snowing. Finally.
Maybe it’ll start up again. Bleah.
Third central Ohio doper in a row.
I can’t tell if it’s still snowing. I’m too depressed about the snow to look out the window.
I’m in Southwestern Ontario and it’s still snowing. I guess it’s really a shock since all the snow had melted and I don’t really check the weather reports so waking up this morning at 8 and seeing a snowstorm sent me right back to bed til 10. So much for studying this morning.
And I don’t have my boots. When I went home for reading week, I left them there not thinking I would need them since it’s been a mild winter. Now I have to slip and slide around in my shoes that have no traction.
Snowing for about 2 hours now; I think I am going to need one more snowfall after this, because my crocus just started coming up, and I love to see the crocus in bloom above the snow.
Kid_A , since you’re in Canada, it surprises me less that you’re getting snow up there today than that we’re getting it in salty Rhode Island, too. I’m really not in the mood for it either – I’ve just started seeing little shoots of daffodils popping up and a little green coming here and there, and that’s what I really need to see…
But just a few years ago, maybe '98, when I was in Boston, we had a major 2-3 foot snowstorm on April Fool’s Day. Very funny. And I can remember, when I was a kid, a few big storms in Connecticut in mid-April.
I do hope this is it for this long, damnable winter though.
Snow…hm…yes, I’ve heard of that stuff. White, cold, crystalline, generally found in mountains, used to ski on, yes? Haven’t seen it.
It’s so beautiful here today, I decided to just blow work off and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. 79, sunny, light breeze, and not a cloud in the sky…
I’ve come up with a theory that people who live on the east coast have such bad tempers because they have to deal with such nasty weather. I may be wrong of course, but I’ve noticed a correlation.
Snowing here now, just starting to collect. We’re expecting 8ish inches but since we live in northern MA (the merrimack valley part) we generally get a bit extra from the moisture in the air coming off the river.
The April Fool’s storm was fun. I was working for Shaw’s then and got stuck on register all day  So I volunteered to come in early the next day (supposed to be my day off) to help with post snow recovery. I got up that morning and looked out at the parking lot of our apartment complex and couldn’t make out any of the cars. Called in but no one was there to get my call. We weren’t dug out until late that afternoon. This was in 1997 by my recollection and because I was still at my apartment.
Then there was my daughter’s first birthday. Had a lovely barbecue planned. But it snowed! May 18, 2002. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
It figures, I was in Iceland in December, for that snow. And you haven’t had any since? Sounds like my typical good timing for vacations.
Snowing here (Albany, NY). Probably the biggest snowstorm of the season. I had a paper due for my class which is canceled this evening. Professor got my paper today anyway. Bet he doesn’t get some of the others for a week. Class meets once a week, some people only take one a semester.
