It's the monthly "Please Explain Today's XKCD To Me" post.

Well let’s see. Downtown Abbey is a British television show about an estate located in North Yorkshire.

So it’s funny because … Um, I have no idea. Looks like an inside joke maybe?

He’s intentionally getting her to make an exasperated sigh so he can respond “girl look at that body.”

This video will explain why he wants to do that.

As for whether that’s funny…

It’s Downton, the name of an estate, not Downtown. It’s rural, not in a town.

It’s about being annoying while someone is engrossed in a television show she loves but you (choose not to?) don’t understand so that she sighs, and then as above.

The Downtown/Downton thing is not the joke. The joke is that she’s being set up for him to respond with the song lyrics.

Thanks, but I know what Downton Abbey is, and that it’s not “Downtown.”

But obfusciatrist’s link explained the joke, and I even laughed out loud. (I’ve heard of the duo LMFAO before, but hadn’t thought of them in this context.) So thank you.

Incidentally, whenever I don’t get the joke (like this time), I just check out the comic forum over there. That plus Google hasn’t failed me yet.

I find the posters there a bit smug, lots of posts about how dumb the people are who don’t get it…

True. And that’s why I don’t post there; I just wait for some other poor sap to say, “Okay, I don’t get it,” and then skim through the resulting pile-on for answers.

Thanks, Heart. I didn’t even know that existed.

Ah, but it only came into existence once you knew about it.

…heisenberg!..

And there’s always Explain xkcd.

That’s not Heisenberg, that’s solipism.

Alternatively, that’s Douglas-Adams-in-his-later-even-more-depressed-years-ism.

My sex life has be depressingly solipist for quite a while now.

According to Heisenberg, now that you know where the website is located, you can’t tell how fast it’s moving.

Right. But that’s not what the quote by Bryan Ekers I (and later you) referenced was claiming.

Unless Heisenberg was also a sophist. Which I suppose he could have been, but there’s no cause to assume it. If there’s a Heisenberg Douchebag-Philosophy-Student Principal

I doubt it would work particularly well for getting out of a speeding ticket, either. No, I’ve never had the balls to try that line when pulled over.

But I knew how fast it was going - now I can’t find it.
