It's time (again) to officially Pit Joe Arpaio and the Maricopa County prison program.

I know this was posted a while ago, but as an Arizona resident it’s my understanding that tent city is mostly used to house DUI convicts and other non-violent offenders with relatively short sentences. It’s like ultra minimum security prison.

Haven’t much from or about ol’ Joe… turns out he’s been in court quite a bit:

I thought we knew that already, but it’s always good to have another actual authority figure weigh in on the issue. And it looks like this one might weigh pretty heavily:

Big grats to lead lawyer for the plaintiffs Stanley Young for getting it right.

Of course, now we have to wait and see if Joe and his Deps actually conform to the court’s ruling; I suspect this thread will live at once more.

It’s secure enough for what’s suppose to be a jail. I never had a problem with the tents being used provided that prisoners have access to plenty of water, shade and did not have any medical conditions exacerbated by the heat. I do have a serious problem with ignoring sexual crimes, targeting people because they’re brown, detaining people for too long after police stops, etc., etc.

There are people who are opposed to immigration without being racist. In fact, most people are only OK with immigration because it’s already very restricted in western countries.

FTR, I find the USA to be significantly more tolerant of immigration than European countries. For instance, not much effort seems to be made to track down illegal immigrants and their employers.

I thought he had the right idea until I found out how he treats pregnant inmates. Sorry, but no matter what she may have done, it’s not the baby’s fault, and no pregnant woman deserves to be given inadequate food and denied basic medical care.

I’ve rarely seen posts as bad as this one, even in the Pit. I also wonder how many people, like me, immediately thought “did you look at yourself in a mirror?” when reading this.

Its a zombie post. It was delt with 2 years ago.

Yep, I just noticed it. Sorry for that.

Still, if it bites your post, we’ll have to shoot it in the header.

Resurrecting this zombie because we don’t really have an omnibus thread for Sheriff Joe and because this is directly pertinent to my OP: [Sheriff loses bid to get judge removed from profiling case:

Good.

Arpaio ‘enforces the law,’ but when his ox is gored, he ignores court orders.

Let’s play a game of who’s worse, him or his new bff Donald Trump.

Definitely Arpaio. He has actual power to ruin people’s lives. Trump is just another rich blowhard.

I know that’s an old post, but I wouldn’t mind knowing more about this? It’s an aspect of ol’ Joe I hadn’t heard about yet, and what the hell, I haven’t hit my weekly RO quota.

The possible results of a Google search for Arpiao + pregnant are too frightening for me to try.

Just stories about the pregnant woman suing the county. Images are of Arpaio’s face. shudder

This appears to be the lone exception to Rule 34.
Thank God.

Now we need a smilie with a light bulb over its head.

'America’s Toughest Sheriff’ Spends Nearly a Year Investigating a Man Who Allegedly Wanted to Have Sex With a Horse.

I guess that does make some sense, the law interfering to stop man-on-horse action . . . this is Arizona, not Texas!

DOJ lawsuit settled.

:frowning: Oh, what might have been! The spectacle! The fights on the Interwebz!

This asswipe (Arpaio) is 83, can’t we collectively conjure up an Alzheimer’s curse to fall upon this dingleberry and end his reign?

Yes, and here we often castigate Southerners for being racists, but it’s clear at least 51% of the voters in Maricopa County are bigots and racists.

And his "tough on crime’ words arent working since his county is among the worst.
