Phoenix is by far the most racist city I’ve lived in so the continual re-election of “Fightin’ Joe” is no big surprise. And I do admit, he does have a point that illegal immigrants should not be given sanctuary in Maricopa County. The problem is his philosophy is (to paraphrase Arnaud Amalric) “Deport all the Browns and let the Mexicans sort them out.”
He’s already completely senile, his aides etc. clean him up, but it shows.

There is another Democrat but he is not expected to do much as he had a demotion 15 years ago, for shagging a lower rank female officer (AFAIK consensual, but the power position lead to his reprimand). There is hope that while the next sheriff will likely be Republican that most of the people will finally see that Arpaio is not re-elected anymore, at least just only to stop the Republicans in Maricopa county from cutting their noses to spite themselves because of the cost they also have to pay in defending the abuses of power from Arpaio.
$41-million in the past eight years plus another $13-million just allocated in this year’s budget. This is to say nothing of money siphoned from a fund meant for physical improvements of the jail to pay for things like junkets to the Honduras and Obama-birther investigations. I tell ya, it shakes my confidence in the democratic process.
