If she curls it tonight, then however will you curl her hair tomorrow?
I thought it was toes you wanted to curl…
Still planning on going depending on how pissed my boss is for me crunching the fender of the co truck this morning.
Sudden attack of the stupid question time.
What’s the dress code like at these places? I’m really not prepared to be much above tee-shirt and jeans, but it occurs to me that most people in this world dress more nicely than I do, and that might factor into the places we’re going.
Oh, damn my eyes! What a cruel twist of fate!
(Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss!!!)
Green Mill, AFAICR, is pretty much come-as-you-are. Jeans and a sweater, and you’re A.G.
Yeah, Silver Seafood is the same way. As long as you’re decently covered it’s all good.
I’m looking at weather issues, and I’m thinking I’m gonna bail on this trip. Sorry, but it’s snowing steadily here and from the radar it looks like there’s a lot more to come. And the precip clouds are from me southward, so it looks like things will be dicy along my whole path. In my youth I would have found a long drive in a snowstorm challenging – now, not so much.
You folks have a nice visit. Also, it would be nice if you could raise a toast to David Simmons, one of our own who’s ailing.
“Decently covered” I can definitely manage, but my sense from living with my roommate is that “and a sweater” is some sort of Chicago code for about a step or a half-step above what I would wear if I were told just to make sure I’m decent.
When she says “and a sweater”, it sure seems to mean I need to wear the nicest jeans I have, a nice sweater or button down type shirt (no tee shirt, though a v-neck long-sleeved shirt was once okay, but then I was wearing pseudo-slacks), and the kicker is nice shoes. I have exactly one pair of nice shoes, and she and I went out and bought it on my birthday when we were going out for dinner. They’re pretty, and okay comfort-wise, but they aren’t warm and probably the salt out won’t treat them well. They’ve gotten better for walking in, but it’s still not great.
So, do I need to wear a pair of nice shoes, pseudo-slacks or my darkest jeans, and a button down sweater or v-neck, long-sleeved shirt, or can I wear warm shoes, comfy (not torn), and a basic long sleeved shirt?
OK I’ll be blunt, you can dress however you want. I am assuming based on the weather that you are not showing up in a pink thing and a “Sweatin’ To The Oldies” tshirt that comes mid tummy. That is the preferred dress for Chi Dopes but we have to make sacrifices due to living in this latitude.
I’ll be in jeans and a plaid shirt.
MikeG, I think I love you.
I’ll bear in mind the preferred clothing for future Chi Dopes, but I’m going to have to skip on the pink. I look horrid in pink.
Question:
Newcomers welcome?
What time will you all be heading to the Green Mill? Looks like music starts at 9PM with a $10 cover. I would not want to impose on dinner at this late time, but might consider some Jazz.
Comment:
The neighborhood is fine…I live in the 2nd District! It is on an upswing, buy now.
Well if music starts at 9… shall we repair there at 9? I know, it’s not fashionably late, but it gets crowded there fairly quick, 'specially with the army we’ll have in tow.
All are welcome from newbies to old 99ers like me:)
I jsut fond out my presence is being requested at a friends’ 10 PM concert at Western and Armitage so I will probably bow out early.
Impose!!! Just show up, I’m sure we’ll be spot-able. If not, use a code phrase: Approach the alpha female/male of the group and say “I’m in a biscotti mood.” If it’s one of us, we’ll reply, “I recommend the chocolate.”
No, seriously. Show up, we’ll be glad to see you. And I’m sorry to hear about Boyo Jim not showing, but I totally understand. I had to drive through the blizzard to Skokie yesterday at 6AM. Worst thing ever! I thought I was going to die. Oh, and yes, jeans are fine. Be comfortable! I’ll probably dress up a little, but that’s because I have to dress for nursing school 5 days a week. I need to break out the cute stuff now and then…
ETA: 9PM at the Green Mill sounds fine to me. We will need to stake out a area, so let’s go a bit early!
Sweet. You’ll all be able to ID me by my “Elect Obama for President” button – and the mob full of pitchfork-and-torch wielding villagers driving me from their midst.
Not for the button. Because I didn’t bother to cut my hair and now I look like … well… bad.
Well, everyone have fun - there is an outside, outside, semi-long shot of a miniscule portion of a slight possibility that after we leave the wake/funeral thing that I can talk the Wife into meeting at the Green Mill.
But we shall see, that’s usually past her bedtime.
At the very least, I know Hazel by sight, so I should find y’all if we make it.
There BETTER be pictures!!!
bat312, check your PMs.
I’m afraid I’ll have to abandon y’all after dinner myself - one of my closest friends suddenly contacted me today and said he’s having a birthday get-together … at my house. :dubious: I told the guys they couldn’t come by until around 9pm, so I’ll be able to hang out with y’all till about 8:30pm, I think.
Can’t wait to see everyone!
I finally got up the courage to go to a dopefest (being a not very social kind of guy) and I couldn’t find anyone. Where were you all?
I was working late tonight, so I couldn’t meet for dinner, but I got to the Green Mill at about 12:00. I just want to say that the picture threads are worthless. I wandered around for a few hours and didn’t successfully recogize anyone. I even asked several “groups” if they were part of a message board group.
At least I had a pretty decent martini and heard some good music ('though if you ask me that drummer went on a bit)
Next time you might consider having a balloon, or a bunch of flowers or something to identify yourselves.
I’m so disapointed.
You can blame me for the miscommunication. We had dinner early and were done by 830pm. We (well mostly I with a pretty high level of consensus) decided that paying $10 for some jazz we knew nothing about was a suckers bet so some went home and I dragged WhyNot, Millit, Enfant, and BlueKangaroo to my friends concert at the Charlestown. We had a few pints, listened to some cool singer songwriter music and then everyone left except for me and Blue. We then headed to another bar to see yet another of my firends’ bands play. Beer and fruity alcoholic drinks were comsumed, fun was had and then I drove Blue (most of the way) home and just walked in the door.
Sorry if anyone was planning on going to the Mill, It really seemed like no one else was going to show up. I’ll put up some pictures later but I had a great time at all the venues. Food was great, fun conversation and I learned that a couple cute ladies can talk guys they’ve never met into giving up their tables in a crowded bar, that was impressive!
Well, at least it was only a $5.00 cover by the time I got there.
