Seems like SPOOFE would be the winner in all these categories. Smells like a set-up to me.
I think we should have a category for the best poster from Southern Saskatchewan named after a cartoon character…I would get nominated and lose to Silent Rob (don’t forget the Jay and Silent Bob comic book)…but it’s the only way I’d get nominated for anything.

Actually, I think that’s a bit much. Just think of how many threads have come and gone in the past year. Maybe we should narrow it down a bit more, maybe as quarterly awards or semi-annually?
Does anybody remember when Opal did this on her site? You could vote for all kinds of categories & see the results update instantly. There were over a hundred categories, IIRC. I don’t know her site well enough but maybe it’s still there?

How about a Poster who best embodies the spirit of the SDMB? Someone whose posts . . . well, you know:) Someone who would serve as a good poster child for the SDMB.
I think there ought to be a “Turn the Other Cheek” award. I’m always amazed at how well some Dopers keep their shit together even when others are provoking them with deliberatory inflammatory or extraordinarily ignorant posts. That ought not go unrecognized.
I also think we should plan ahead for there being multiple winners in each category–maybe we should name a “top three” for each. You can say who the top three vote-getters are, without ranking them.
How about Best Couple That Met on the SDMB?

Do we want to separate categories into male/female? Personally, unless it’s a sexually charged category (best flirt, poster most likely to sell their underwear online) I’d like to avoid it.
I don’t see much of a problem with the awards covering an entire year, CrunchyFrog. I figure that if a thread that old still comes to mind, it was a pretty good thread. Besides, old threads are being resurrected daily; might as well have people be able to include what they want. Besides, if it does turn into a regular event, doing it annually is going to be enough work.
CrankyasanOldMan, I’m not sure about having multiple winners per category. I feel it takes enough significance out of the award as to make it almost not worth voting. I’m planning on announcing runners-up, but I think the crowd here at SDMB is mature enough that we can be good winners, and good losers, and not get upset that someone else won. There’s always next year…
But anyone who feels strongly about this issue, feel free to pitch in.
My favorite categories so far… Poster who Best Embodies the Spirit of the SDMB, and Best Lurker.
Particularly the Best Lurker one. “Back when I was posting to this one thread, I felt as if someone had read what I wrote, and fell out of their chair laughing while spewing strawberry Crush out their nose. Whoever that was, I’d like to nominate them.”
Keep the category nominations and all the creative input coming. I really want to know what people recommend for a voting method, especially.

**Best Thread Involving Nonhumans ** covers both cat lovers and ufo believers
Most Creative Greeting to Opal. Some of our posters are having lots of fun with this one

Most Unusual Thread I know – it would be like judging the blackness of an individual nugget in a coal mine
Best One-Line Zinger for those with sharpened talons. Some possibility of overlap with the first category above.
**Best Suckup to a Mod or Admin ** Though they are worth every bit of praise that comes their way, that’s for sure.
**The Jack Chick Satire Award **
