It's time for the return of "Hijack this thread"

Deacon Blue was already taken?

My clock says 4:37pm. (Wel it doesn’t actually say it. You kind of have to look at it. I wonder what time it will say that I actually posted this?

Richard Deacon, best known as Mel Cooley on The Dick Van Dyke Show, appeared in the film The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood (or Hollywood Blue, as it’s known in the United Kingdom).

My cousin used to have a talking clock. It always scared me.

Is this really solving the problems in Darfur?

And how about that Ethiopian military, eh? They’re kickin’ butts and takin’ names.

And you say that they’re violent and thieving why, just because they’re African? For your information, Europeans have a bit of violence and theft in their history as well, you know. Let’s begin in the fifteenth century, when European conquerors set sail for the…

I saw the conclusion of the t.v. version of “Guns, Germs, and Steel” on Discovery Channel last night. It pointed out what a difficult time the Europeans had trying to conquor central Africa, as for the first time they encountered diseases that they had no defense against (malaria) as compared to the local population. Interestingly, the local population also were not as devastated by European smallpox as the original residents of the Americas were. The guns and steel eventually made up for it, though. But it took a good while. In the initial encounters between the Zulus and the Europeans, the palefaces were all but obliterated.

Zulu is the military alphabet term for the letter Z, so a soldier about to take a nap may say he plans to “catch some Zulus”.

Rust never sleeps.

Come to think of it, I’m a little sleepy myself. G’night.

Ed Murrow never used contractions

Bob Marley never used contraception.

Or so I’ve heard.

Someone in high school told me that condoms don’t prevent AIDS.

We didn’t have AIDS when I was in high school. We were too soon.

We didn’t have Ipods when I was in high school. For that matter, we didn’t have cell phones, laptops or school shootings. I’m not saying they are related, but it kind of makes you wonder.

Sgt Schwartz

I know a sergeant. He just got back from Iraq a month or so ago.

The pesh merga kick ass.

I read the person Joe Pesci’s character in Goodfellas was based on was actually heavyset guy (but the sociopathic tendencies were real), which kind of changes things a bit, ya know?

Did you know that pesci is the Italian word for “(more than one) fish”? While Googling for a cite, I came across this photo which may amuse you.

I don’t trust that, because Google controls the internet.
