In another thread, I brought up the fact that I’m traveling in the near future, and that I’ll be adding to the list of baseball stadiums in which I’ve seen a game. In addition, I’ll be adding another state (or two or three) to the number of places I’ve bowled in my life.
It got me to wondering: what ambitions do other people have – serious, silly, or in between – in terms of accomplishing something in a variety of locations. (Yes, I realize I’m making the mistake of opening the door for sex here, but, hey, it could be interesting!)
I’ll start with mine:
In terms of Major League Baseball, I’ve gone to baseball games at Dodger Stadium, Anaheim Stadium, Jack Murphy Stadium (back in the day), Bank One Ballpark, Wrigley Field and Busch Stadium.
As for bowling, I’ve bowled in California, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Missouri.
I should add, just in case it wasn’t clear, that the point here is for your list relates to an actual goal you have, rather than something coincidental. For example, I really do want and intend to catch a baseball game in every Major League stadium at some point.
Saying that you’ve lived in 13 different states because you were in a military family doesn’t really count, unless you actually would like to have lived in all 50 states someday.
I’ve had sex in 16 different countries. Couldn’t possibly count the cities and states. (Is this TMI? I’ve travelled a lot.)
I’m not sure I’ll be able to do it…but at one point I wanted to swim in every sea in the world.
So far, Dead, Med, Pacific, Atlantic, Sea of Cortez, Red Sea, Black Sea…Umm, I can’t recall now, maybe more. But there’s way more I’ll probably never get to.
I have attended horse races at Bay Meadows, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, Turfway Park, Fairgrounds, Oaklawn Park, Belmont Park, Del Mar, River Downs, Kentucky Downs, Beulah Park, and just last week added Gulfstream Park.
That puts the count at seven different states. Next on my list is Arlington Park, and Saratoga for this year, adding two more states. And not really on my list, but I have an Indiana bred who will most likely run at Hoosier or Indiana Downs this spring, so will add that state as well.
And just to add to the discussion, I would be curious what everyone’s favorites on their lists were. Mine are:
1 Keeneland
2 Churchill Downs
3 Del Mar
4 Fairgrounds
5 Belmont Park
I, too would like to go a ballgame at every major league park. So far, I have been to games at Candlestick & PacBell, the Oakland Coliseum, Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park (new only, missed out on the old version), and PNC Park. So, I have lots more to visit, but I feel comfortable that I can eventually make it to every park.
This is more something my SO likes to do, but I’ve played monopoly in…Ohio, florida, california, pennsylvania, kansas, toronto, baja california and the bahamas. There may be others I’ve forgotten. So that’s at least 5 states and four countries. I’m sure he’d be happy if we played in every state.
I’ve spent at least one night in all 50 states and every province of Canada. I bowled in very few of them, though.
I’ve been to 19 current and 6 defunct ballparks. I’ll never get to them all, because they keep closing down old ones faster than I can get to new ones.
I’ve used the bathroom on a train while traveling variously through seven European countries and watched as the hatch opened and everything was dumped onto the train tracks. Have sex or visit ballparks all you want, but THAT’S something that never grows old.
Mostly (but not all) boxed lunches. (Must. Not. Make. Hot dog jokes. Nope.)
So, do you have one of those faux distressed dark pine wall cabinets to display the 44 state spoons you haven’t bought?
I’ve at least passed through 31 states (even though I only spent about an hour driving through a corner of Idaho). I’d like, at some point, to be able to say I’ve been in all 50.
At the age of eight I thought it would be cool to swim in all the Great Lakes, both Oceans and all the Finger Lakes. Made it by the time I was eighteen. My father drove alot on vacations.
Alas, no–the Yukon is the only territory in which I’ve managed to hang my hat. I did, however, work in a very enjoyable visit to St. Pierre and Miquelon.
