I got a new 2005 Grand Cherokee last week. It has a 5.7 liter HEMI in it and does 0-60 in 7 seconds flat. It is truly awesome. That is all.
I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 liter straight six. It does 0-60 in about 20 seconds. It truly sucks. That is all
You should check out the new one. It has no resemblance to the last model at all. Completely redone and “Mercedes-ized” in a good way. The thing is rock solid on and off road and goes through deep snow like it’s on dry pavement. I haven’t heard a single squeek or rattle (which plagued the old Jeeps) and it’s dead quiet inside.
We had a GMC Jimmy that was given to us. I think it had a 5.7l in it but no HEMI. It handled like crap, was poorly designed, squeaked, rattled and creaked, but stomping on the gas made my balls tingle.
I can’t really intellectually justify having a vehicle with such a gas hogging engine, but I can see the appeal of it.
That Is It! I’ve Have Had It!
What The Heck Is A Hemi And What Is Soooooo Great About Them?
Y’r welcome!
More and better things to come. We’re doing more work on the Chrysler side of things, these days. But there’s been a lot of ergonomics and design crossover in the last few years.
Well, it’s got a hemispherical combustion head. At the time (50s-60s), it did develop more power than some other engines. It’s a different way of doing certain things. Er. Where the gasoline explodes? It’s a hemisphere on top, and not flat. This lets you heat the fuel over the entire area of the hemisphere without cool spots, creating a stronger explosion every time you ignite it.
It’s not just marketing gimmicks, but there are other ways to get more power, so in part, it is marketing gimmickry.
I like that advertisment with “What’re you hauling” It features a Mugen modified… is it a Z? Nice touch, such as it is. Mugen is roughly the equivalent to RUF or Calloway. for japanese cars.
I’m assuming you’re in Europe…the vehicle currently being sold in Europe as the Jeep Cherokee is called the Jeep Liberty in the US. The vehicle somewhat of a joke among hard-core Jeep drivers - independent suspension on a Jeep?!?. I’ve heard that the product team had to stack rocks to get the Liberty over the Rubicon Trail, and even then it came off with much more damage than is normal for a stock vehicle.
I’ve got a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 5.2 liter V-8. I’ve never timed 0-60, but it’s got enough power to suit me.
I’m not in Europe and this is definitely a Grand Cherokee. Yes it does have an IFS, but if you read the reviews, you’ll see it handles just fine offroad. It did win Peterson’s 4x4 of the Year as well as a great review from Rockcrawler. You can keep your bone jarring solid axle, thanks anyway. I have a Wrangler TJ if I want to crawl over rocks.
E-Sabbath, I assume you work for Mercedes? Where’s the new Wrangler??? It needs an overhaul bad.
That’s a big six in a really light truck. If it’s running right, 0-60 should take less than eight seconds.
I know… I was exaggerating. But I’m scared to put it to the floor for fear the wheels will fall off.
Touch me, Hurricane, spin me around with your touch…
I’d like to say that a new Wrangler’s coming out. I remember using the solid steel bumper of our old CJ as an impromptu bulldozer.
Good things are coming, and people know we need a new Wrangler. Let’s just hope our voices are heard.
I thought the title said, “I’ve got a HEM!” and I was going to say, “Great! I hate dragging my pant cuffs in the slush.”
wanders off…
I’ve got a Hemi… IN MY PANTS!
That is all.
