I've never had coffee. Ever.

Vanilla Toast, you coffee-sucking smegweasel! How dare you come in here and post that…um…that thing…you…um…posted… Okay, I’ve run out of steam already. Maybe I need some more caffeine.

MercyStreet – as a layman’s guess I’d say you might have had a touch of diet-induced anemia as a child. More dark green vegetables, I think. Or at least more Guinness.

Sorry Priceguy I loved my first cup of coffee, it was whilst on holiday in Rhodes, my Dad bought himself turkish coffee and I (annoying even at the tender age of 7) insisted I tried it. I loved the stuff, and was soon getting my own cup at the taverna (to the taverna owners great surprise and pleasure).
I susspect part of the reason for liking it was that I was told by my dad that I wouldn’t like it because it was too strong.

Alright, then wait until you hear this one …

I have tried coffee, but I don’t like it. I love the way it smells, no matter what the flavor of the day is. “Coffee flavored” coffee, Hazlenut, French vanilla, Irish cream, French roast, Columbian, chickory, you name it. Hell, I can even tell the difference between Jamaican, Kona, and Kenya by smell.

But I can’t stand the stuff. If it gets any closer to my mouth than my nose I start to gag, literally. I don’t like coffee, cappuccino, espresso, or even coffee-flavored ice cream. Don’t know why it is, but I just don’t think it tastes like it smells.

Here’s the kicker though: everyone at works says I make the best coffee in the joint. I don’t know why, either. Maybe it’s because I used to make coffee for my dad when I was a kid, and he’s my favorite person in the world (don’t tell my husband though) and I wanted to make him happy. Who knows.

In any event, I make coffee at work because I cannot deal with my coworkers when they are un-caffeinated. Me, I just have a nice cup of Earl Grey or, if I really need a caffeine boost, a nice cold Mountain Dew. In the event I find myself at a coffee shop, I always order a full-fat chai latte with a double shot of vanilla and whipped cream. Tastes just like pumkpin pie. Who needs coffee when you can drink pie?

No garlic? How did you live?

Ya got a cite for that? It’s news to me that either, in moderation, is bad for you.

I remember seeing a four-year-old kid at McDonalds MANY years ago, drinking a cup of coffee. My siblings and I thought that was a bit unusual. (then again, my sister started drinking it when she was about 11)

Luckily, I grew up in a house where my mother was a great cook… she’d make us a lot of Chinese food, sure. But we’d always have vegetables, fish, garlic, coffee, tea, and any number of other foodstuffs mentioned in this thread. We were exposed to different kinds of foods from an early age, and learned to like most things. (except stinky tofu, durian, bitter melon, etc.)

I myself like coffee, but don’t have steaming cups of it every day. Usually, I have it to wake me up or when I want to treat myself to a specialty cup of it somewhere. So no… I’m not addicted to coffee.

F_X

I did. I didn’t start drinking it because of the taste, but I didn’t object to its flavour in the manner you’re suggesting. My parents ground their own coffee. I have never been able to abide instant, and I can tell a good cup of coffee from a foul one.
