I call shenanigans. That photo was clearly staged to maximize the apparent size difference between the two hedge-pigs. Notice that the tubby urchin is curled up defensively with spines extended, whereas his presumably more normally-proportioned companion is calm and therefore presents a more svelte appearance.
I’m not saying that the bigger one isn’t abnormally obese, but it’s not really possible to tell from that photo how much huskier he is. They both need to be relaxed if their relative size is to be compared accurately.
They’re both cute though.
I’ll back Terrifel up on this one - Hedgies look like that when they are upset, and he is completely puffed out. Might not even be fat!
Well, the article did say he weighed five pounds, which is pretty porky for a [del]pig[/del] hedgehog. But yes, I had noticed his defensive posture – but his size and that particular position made him look highly comical.
