Jack Chick has lost the edge or where has the HAW! HAW! gone?

I would have put this in GD but I don’t think anyone takes Jack seriously around SDMB. Jack debuted two new tracts this week, Unloved which is kind of bland but features our old pal Fang and the gay-bashing Birds and the Bees with second appearances by the old hag Ms. Henn and freakishly proportioned Li’l Susie. WTF is wrong with that kid? She looks like those posters of dancing, sad-faced, dinner-plate-eyed teenagers they had in the sixties. Was it a birth defect or something? Maybe it was genetic and those were Susie’s parents.

The gay bashing isn’t as vitriolic as some of Jack’s past work which I suppose is a blessing of sorts. The gay couple introduced to the class kiss each other but it’s a rather chaste kiss on the cheek. Not so with the obligatory flashback to Sodom, those men kissed on the lips. No doubt open mouthed and with tongues, scandalous. Larry and Charles, the gay couple, have standard issue demons crawling about them but there is not a single “HAW! HAW!” in the entire tract. Is it just me or does Larry look like a badly drawn Nathan Lane? I guess Jack does some research but it’s spotty at best. I know a lot of gay people and not once have I heard anyone, men or women, refer to a same sex partner as “my wife.” Then again I’ve never seen a gay couple with little gay demons flitting about but I’ll pay closer attention at church next Sunday.

One of my bosses refers to her partner as her wife. Or, sometimes when she’s feeling especially cutesy, the wifey-poo. I haven’t noticed any little lesbian demons sitting on her shoulder, though.

Yeah, the one guy looks like Nathan Lane to me, too. Did you notice how 70’s all the kid’s clothes and the hairstyles were?

We need to do another “write your own Chick tract” thread one of these days. Make it “classic Chick” this time. It would have the obligatory Haw Haw, Bob *and *Susie maybe(say, to speak to the grownups and kids of some deluded non-Christians). Fang would put in an appearance, and the demons would drag off at least one poor soul.

I haven’t heard a gay man refer to his partner as his wife, but I have heard one speak of his husband.

Unloved is boring. Apparently, having cancer makes you a failure. Good to know, Mr Chick. Keep these messages of hope and love flying off the presses.

Thanks.

Is there really anyone in the world who takes these seriously? I’ve seen fundamentalist christians, but… wow!

“If anyone tries to make you Gay, stay away from them!”

Yeah, I thought “Unloved” was way too boring, but it does have the classic line “Grr! He must be stopped!”, which kinda makes up for the absence of the “HAW! HAW!”

I have to use this font because Jack uses a sans-serif for normal text but serifed text for words from the Bible.

The ending of “Unloved” is touching – "You’re not a LOSER any more, Jimmy. God has turned you into a WINNER.

Jimmy died 4 months later. . ."

What’s up with those come hither eyes in the fourth from the last panel in Bs+Bs? Or is that just me?

Second on the classic “Grr He must be stopped” line.

Yeah, not up (down?) to his usual level. What was really missing from Unloved was Jimmy’s family being cast into hell for their evil materialism…

Well, 70s hairstyles are still retro-fashionable, but 70s clothes fell out of retro-fashion in the 90s.
80s clothes are the current retro-fashion, it seems.
(Could 80s hairstyles soon be making a comeback? )

Anyhoo…

Mmm, lesbian demons…
