Since I’ve brought it up and it’s now out in the open, thanks to HelloKitty’s Guily Pleasure thread, I wonder if anyone else has seen and likes Jack of All Trades. The show stars Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead Trilogy, Adventures of Brisco County, Jr) and it is so campy and silly, I enjoy the hell out of it. It’s executive produced by Sam Raimi (big surprise, Raimi and Campbell working together). Anyone else know what I’m talking about, or am I the only one who’s seen this show?
I’ve seen bits and pieces, but the only thing I remember is that the woman that’s his sidekick is one of the most gorgeous women I’ve ever seen.
That would be Angela Dotchin. Apparently, she’s already a big TV star in New Zealand.
I caught some of it yesterday. I ended up really enjoying its campiness as well.
I saw one about two men who were stranded on an island for beaucoup years…
I think.
It seemed ok but nothing special.
I think if they’d cut back on the dumb, easy sex and fart jokes, I’d like it more, but I do so enjoy any show wherein an arrogant American routinely makes the French look like ninnies. Especially if said American is played by Bruce Campbell.
It’s a corny show but it’s so Sam Raimi… I just have this need to watch it. Of course, Angela Dotchin makes it worthwhile.
I just love the guy, I thought he was funy when he played the king of thieves in the Xena and Hercules series and I was delighted when he got another show. I love it!
I like that show. Bruce Campell is great at campy acting. My only problem is that the show is never shwon at the same time every week, they keep moving it around. The other show that fills the action pack hour, Cleopatra 2019 or something can go to an early grave. That is the one that does nothing for me.
Angela Dotchin was really big in NZ with a soap opera called Shortland Street. She established herself as basically the star of the show very quickly, mostly by out-acting her co-stars, and by being very pretty. A good combination.
However, another Shortland Street star of that time, Angela Bloomfield, is in my opinion much much much prettier. Check her out as Michael J Fox’s dead wife in ‘The Frighteners’. Total honey.
Jack of All Trades is a hoot; I love Bruce Campbell and Angela Dotchin is all that and a bag of chips. Not just because she’s physically beautiful, but because she sends out such a strong vibe of intelligence. Maybe it’s just her character, but she comes across as a very smart woman, and of course that’s sexy.
I wish the sense of humor was a teensy bit less sophomoric and the historical details were just an itty-bitty bit more accurate, but whatta ya gonna do. The stars (including the guy who plays Croque) are so clearly having fun with the show that I’m infected with it (the fun) as well.
Then there’s JoAT’s lead-in, Cleopatra 2525. It’s darker than JoAT, but has three times the babes, so who could hate that? Jennifer Sky is heavenly.
Both shows run at about 1 a.m. Monday morning in the Atlanta marker. Thank the IPU for VCRs!
It’s a pretty good show. My Bruce Campbell crush might add some bias, though. Unfortunately, the word on the message boards and newsgroups is that it’s been cancelled. There are 8 or 9 new episodes that are supposed to air this fall, but after that it’s curtains for Jack and Em.
Maybe the last episode will involve the bloody death of Jean Claude the parrot. Man, do I ever hate that thing. REAL heroes do not waste their time on talking birds.
Jack of All Trades does make me laugh. Bruce Campbell is great. 'Nuff said.
However, Cleopatra 2525 wins hands-down the award for worst theme song of all time. It’s L. Ron Hubbard bad, and if you’ve read the Worst Novels thread, you understand just how bad that is.
Sorry, but the worst theme song goes to Jack…it’s a better show…but the theme song is…::Shudder::
It would be better still if there were fewer Napoleon episodes, but…eh…
Say it ain’t so Juniper! Damn, just when I get to liking a show they pull it off the air, but crap like Full House just goes on for years and years . . .
Well, after I take over the world, I’ll put an end to this nonsense!
After some more fact checking (okay, you got me. I read interviews with the stars for half an hour and then spent a few minutes reading the official web board), I see that I many have misspoken earlier. The show is not in fact cancelled as of yet. Studios USA will make a decision regarding JOAT (and Cleopatra 2525; the two go hand in hand) on September 23.
The situation is still said to be dire, though, so if anyone besides Crunchy Frog or me is enthusiastic about Jack, check out http://savejack.exomediainc.com/ for more information about contacting Studios USA in support of the show.
Oh, and the season premiere will be the week of October 1, so set your VCRs.
I’ve never bothered to watch Cleopatra 2525. It looks horrible. I wonder if any execs thought that maybe Cleo is dragging down JOAT?
Oh, I guess those execs don’t think about stuff like that. It must be difficult to get enough oxygen to their brains with their heads so far up their asses.
haven’t watched the show, but i’ve seen the ads, and i think they made a crack about it on suck or maybe the onion or something. did find some pics of angela dotchin here, though. http://starhotties.8m.com/adbook.html yeah, it’s an amusing name for a site i suppose, but it was linked to by imdb, which in my eyes can do no wrong.
snicker That’s going next to “It’s Africa hot” in Lux’s Big Book of Proper Adjectives.
And Tengu, bite your tongue. The theme song to JoAT is mad funny. The theme song to Cleopatra 2525, on the other hand, pains me.
