I can’t really put my finger on the reason why, but somehow she didn’t really “grab me” the way Liz Cheney has, or the way Stephanie Murphy did last week, or even how Kinzinger has.
–specifically, that they continued to do their job and protect the country.
And totally united in that moment.
She was less fluent/more nervous.
Me, too. I thought all three closing speeches (Kitzinger, Luria, and Cheney) were very good, but pertinent to that observation, Cheney seemed to zero in on the real purpose of the hearings, which is essentially to ensure that this man can never be president again. I would hope that this is enough to deny him the Republican nomination.
I suspect those Jan 7. outtakes are going to eat up Trump more than anything else. Squinting, stumbling over common words, admitting to weakness, grimacing in frustration. Those couple of minutes are going to take up an awful lot of real estate in his head.
They were good closing speeches. There was a lot of interest in tonight’s hearing, too. The needle is moving, albeit slowly.
I’m going to respond to this in the Adjacent thread.
Fox News website is talking about Lee Zeldin.
Aspenglow, are you going to close this thread again, and reopen it in September? Or do we still have time here to discuss what we saw tonight?
I’m going to leave it open for so long as it remains on topic with responses pertaining to the hearing. When people start hijacking, I’ll snap it closed.
Hope this helps focus the responses!
Thank you, Aspenglow!
Ms maddow would like josh hawley’s running for cover set to Benny hill theme.
While watching the video of those cretins in swat gear shouting “This is what we trained for!” : that’s the link in the chain that hasn’t turned up yet. When Trump told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” – he’d been training them to be his brownshirts for months before the election. The bastard was intending to stay in office by force.
There was undoubtedly an intermediary between Trump and the militias – probably Roger Stone. But nobody’s come clean yet.
Those outtakes nicely displayed that he’s not as polished and professional as he wants to appear to be. Anybody can stumble, necessitating a retake, but he’s trying to rewrite a prepared speech on the fly, and arguing with the director about what he will and won’t say.
LOL, I couldn’t agree more!! That’s perfect.
In the days that followed, McConnell, McCarthy, and most of the other GOP members of Congress stepped back from the repudiation of Trump, but thankfully, in that moment, their anger and feelings of betrayal got them to – at least for a moment – see past their partisanship, and do the right thing for the country.
@Aspenglow runs a taut ship thread!
God that was depressing. Everyone knew. And now almost no Republicans care.
CNN reporting on how it took an hour to do the January 7 video from which the outtakes came. From that hour, the finished video was apparently only three minutes long. There were undoubtedly many other outtakes.
That seems to be a very accurate description. Republicans: Overthrow of the govt attempt? Meh…
