Jan 6 Hearings Follow-Along & Commentary Thread (Starts Jun 9, 2022)

I think they care more than they let on.

Every one of them that took an active role in the effort to steal the election from Biden has potential criminal liability. Much easier to pretend, “What? Problem? Nobody here but us chickens!”

If they were that concerned, wouldn’t they ask for pardons?

It sounds phony to me. Those guys, afaik, have impressive weaponry, and how many doors would lead to the loading dock anyway?

A lot of them did. It was an impressive list, and I don’t remember them all. Cheney listed them in a previous hearing. Off the top of my head: Gaetz (big surprise, eh?), Biggs, Brooks, Gohmert, Perry, MTG.

None were granted, so far as we know.

That part was before they got pence to the cars. They thought they would have to hold the vp office off the senate chamber. The insurgents were 40 ish feet away.

MeidasTouch has done this and posted it on Twitter.

I’m hearing reports that it’s being memed with a bunch of different music, including Kate Bush’s “Running up that Hill” and the Chariots of Fire theme.

They did mention that the memes were flying faster than he was running.

If they didn’t care so much, they wouldn’t be working so hard to make the country think it wasn’t really a riot or an attempted overthrow of the government and we should just move along and put it behind us.

Also, DJT actually won the election which was rigged and should be president right now (and really he is, in secret, but soon all will be revealed as he returns to the WH in triumph and throws Biden’s skinny ass into prison because, seriously, how DARE Biden look in better physical shape than he does?)

I think I’d better go to bed. These assholes are getting to me.

First, it’s Dr. Maddow.

Second, the Internet is way ahead of her.

Man, watching Trump’s January 7 speech outtakes, I was definitely getting Bill “Fuck it, we’ll Do It Live!” O’Reilly vibes at times.

Reporter: “Senator Hawley, do you plan to run again?”
Hawley: “Can you be more specific.”

Ms. Lurie (one of the questioners tonight) is being interviewed on CNN right now. She mentioned that the Committee has decided to continue in September, because as these hearings go on, more evidence is coming to light, more people are coming forward, and so the Committee plans to investigate more during August, before reconvening in September.

Not sure which of the two threads this belongs in, but I sure hope that - as fast as the “news cycle” moves in 2022 - this doesn’t get “back burnered” and we as a country don’t lose interest over the next 6 - 8 weeks. I wish they hadn’t already declared that they’ll be recessed until September.

Hilarious!
My thanks to all posters for their observations and perspectives.

Since, as a clever poster poster said upthread, these hearings have been picked up for a second season- may I please make a suggestion?

In September when Hearings start again (are we assured there will be more than one?)-- I really believe it would be best for each future hearing to have its own thread. It will be much easier to stay on topic and ThelmaLou can just start a new thread an hour or two before each hearing starts. The next day at noon it could be closed unless there are still comments to be made specifically on topic. (Since we have a follow-along thread already, and if each hearing thread is titled, staying on target seems like it would be very easy.)

I don’t see how it would a great deal more work for anyone (new threads are started every day??), and I do not want to add work for anyone, but . . . … Trying to find what Rusty Bowers said or to find a specific comment about say, something posted during the hearing with the DOJ officials in a two or three thousand post thread is burdensome.

Since we have to wait for more than a month anyway, can we please try having a specific thread for each hearing? It will guarantee each thread stays on topic – or at most that any speculation comes as a result of what is being broadcast at the moment during the one specific hearing.

I think the previous hearings would have been better served by each one having their own thread. Sure the Cassidy Hutchinson one might have still derailed into hundreds of posts about the transportation issues, but that happened anyway. If each hearing was unique it would have stayed much more focused:
~The Summary, with Capital Police testimony
~The Grift, plus Ginsberg and Luttig
~Pence Saved the Day, plus Eastman and Trump plot
~The Department of Justice one
~The State Republicans one
~Ms. Hutchinson

I highly recommend that in season two we let each hearing have its own thread. We already have a follow along thread for peripheral observations.

Lastly, thanks for opening this one a couple of hours early.

I wouldn’t mind a new thread for Season 2, but I don’t know if one thread per hearing would be a good idea. Remember, tonight’s hearing harked back to Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony, to Mr. Ayres’ testimony, to what was shown previously about Pat Cippilone (sp?), and so on.

So, one thread for the season would work for me. As for a thread title, may I make some suggestions?

~ Hearings 2: Trump’s Boogaloo
~ January 6, September 10 (or whenever in September; make it sound like a sports score)
~ January 6 Hearings: See You in September
~ January 6 Hearings: September Swansong

Anyway, we could have some fun with the title of the thread.

ETA: Anything we can do with “September Morn,” like the Neil Diamond song? Somehow identify the thread with “September Mourn,” or something similar?

My last word tonight:
Representative Luria does not seem to have that authoritative voice that gets many people positions of authority. But I have known any number of smart, competent women who are neither loud nor aggressive who are sometimes underestimated (was even married to one for almost a decade) and in each case they can become a force of nature if the need arises.

I have no doubt Ms. Luria falls into this category too. She was a US Naval Officer for two decades and served aboard ship, not on the shore in some rear area. Compared to some, she does have something of a “little girl voice”, but here in Arizona we have two women who sound like unsure housewives if you don’t know better – but have had to stand up to national pressure (Katie Hobbs as Secretary of State and Kathy Hoffman as Superintendent of Education) The masking thing, and being a Democrat in Republican Governor Doug Ducey’s State House was quite a challenge but Hoffman held her own and served us well, as did Hobbs.

I thought Luria did fine although I wish she had a more assertive voice at first too. (I don’t think anyone has as strong of a no-nonsense voice as Cheney. She takes no shit and brooks no avoidance when looking for answers - I have to admire her for that. I suspect Luria might be able to do that to some degree also if she HAD to.)

Good. He’s never going to serve an hour in prison for what he did, let him mourn his lost personal image.

If I was him I wouldn’t go fishing with one of Eric’s buddies.

Melania too busy photographing a rug to be aware of the insurrection? You point the camera down and press the shutter. Twenty seconds, tops.

A stain on our history? More like a shit stain on our underwear.

To me, the testimony was not as compelling as Hutchinson’s. These are people more than happy to ride the crazy train until it jumped off the tracks. The video outtakes were the highlight. It reminded me of the bit where Johnny Carson played the part of a hick in a hunting cap giving an equal time response on a local news show. But boy he sure cannot bring himself to say the election is over. To this day he can’t admit that he was crushed. What a fragile ego and what a small, shallow, insecure person.

I wish Pence would grow a spine and speak out. He has pissed off the MAGA crowd so much that he has no chance whatsoever at winning another nomination. Why not come clean and testify in great detail about the pressure on him to do what he didn’t have the power to do in the first place? He has nothing to lose. And what’s with his hair? Does he go to the barber every single day? You never see the slightest change in the length of his hair.

Unless he outright stalked off to pout for a while until his people could coax him back in front of the camera.
