I like Chairman Thompson, but I thought his opening statement could have been edited down a little. But hey, if I had his voice I’d never shut up.
What I learned:
Ivanka didn’t buy into the stolen election crap. That has to burn the old man up.
There was an advance team of Proud Boys who didn’t even go to the speech, they were there casing the Capitol and identifying the weak points and making the initial penetrations
“Maybe the crowd has the right idea to hang Mike Pence”. Holy shit, that is cold.
The lady officer’s testimony was chilling. I admire her courage and dedication in doing her job after hitting her head on a concrete step and getting knocked out.
Bill Barr’s “bullshit” comment and learning that everyone except the hard core nutjobs knew the election wasn’t stolen.
George Gervin may have been the Iceman, but Liz Cheney is the Icelady. She knows her career is over but she’s going to go out shoving her middle finger up Donnie’s fat ass.
Multiple Congressmen asking for pre-emptive pardons? Gotta hear more about this.
Hearing that string cheese with a tooth stuck in it call the White House council “whiny” made me chortle to myself a little. I mean if that ain’t the Hitler youth calling the Oath Keepers white…
I feel that, if there were any clip shown which was directed at an individual(s) not named Donald Trump, this was it. “This is what they thought of you. Get it?”
I think he got better as it went on, picking up the pace, enunciating a little more in conjunction with emphasis on the key phrases. It’s a slow crescendo rising with the weight and significance of the evidence, an orator’s technique. His southern drawl might throw off a lot of people but let’s see how it goes. He could certainly put the audience to sleep if he dials it back to 1 at the start of each session.
While Mr. Carlson spent his program dismissing the threat the rioters posed that day, Mr. Hannity said the threat was serious enough that it should have been treated as such by the United States Capitol Police and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“Why didn’t they lift a finger,” Mr. Hannity asked, “to protect the Capitol?”
‘It’s not our fault! They should have protected themselves from us!’
This. Beginning slowly and formally was the right approach. If they had started with great bombast and drama, bells, whistles, and sirens, the committee would have been accused of manipulating viewers and deliberately pushing their hot buttons. (As if trump & Co. hadn’t already done this.) Even people who didn’t sit glued to their TVs last night, can watch replays in practically every online source this morning (except one, of course).
As it is, there’s already criticism of the slick editing and “packaging” of the video presentation. (I saw a specific link earlier, but can’t find it now.) Bottom line: someone is going to find fault with how this story is told, no matter what.
You are 100% right. A lot of someones are going to find fault with this.
Last night I realized that Chairman Thompson sounds very much like Tyrael. This could be a good thing, many gamers learned to trust that voice over the years…
Anyone who missed the broadcast on Thursday night (like I did) and who would like to see it in its entirety, with so-so transcripts/captions, and good notes/points of interest, as well as no commentary, check out the CSPAN website.
Liz Cheney could be the modern-day reincarnation of Senator Sam Ervin.
Staunch conservative (of the old-style Southern Democrat variety), no friend of liberals or progressives, but “Senator Sam” took the Constitution and the Watergate hearings seriously, thus becoming the unlikely Hero Of The Left, at least for the duration.
