Jan 6 Hearings Follow-Along & Commentary Thread (Starts Jun 9, 2022)

Unfortunately this testimony might actually help him. Many of his followers felt abandoned by Trump’s not keeping his promise to march with them up to the capitol. Now they see that he did everything he could to keep his promise. I expect right wing media spin is going to be all about the treasonous disloyalty of Trumps deep state security detail.

I believe that I recall a variety of articles about Trump’s love for his detail and hand-chosen promotions for his favorite guys.

Whether there’s a Deep State or not, there’s no way to read Trump’s presidency where he’s competent. Either they played the guy like a fiddle for four years and, by all logic, would continue to do so if he had another term, or he’s just so incompetent that his sheer horribleness is the creation of the Deep State, since they’re all his closest and preferred appointees.

Trump wanting to join Antifa in storming the Capitol has to be confusing for his acolytes.

Otherwise known as doing their jobs.

Meadows called Roger Stone on January 5th.

Meadows told Hutchinson to arrange security/transport to the Willard Hotel for the War Room meeting with Michael Flynn, Stone, Giuliani and others. In the end, he didn’t attend directly but instead “dialed into” the meeting.

Video of Flynn’s deposition with the Committee, showing Flynn repeatedly taking the Fifth.

Flynn takes the 5th on the question, “Do you believe in the peaceful transition of power?”

I flipped to Fox just to see what was going on (they’re covering it, at least) and the takeaway of commentator Jonathan Turley is that everyone should be just shocked, shocked, that the Secret Service would DARE to refuse a direct order from the President of The United States, who is apparently the king of everything and should’ve been obeyed without question.

The host and other commentators have referred to today’s testimony as devastating for Trump, although they’ve reminded everyone several times that Trump used the word peacefully and the mean liberals always forget to mention that, although they concede that Trump has other serious legal issues. It’s the afternoon Fox guys (John Roberts and Brett Baier) who aren’t as horrible as the nighttime guys.

But at least they’re covering it.

Thanks for taking one for the team. You have greater intestinal fortitude than I do.

NYT:

"Peter Baker

To see a retired four-star general who swore an oath to defend the country and the Constitution plead the Fifth when asked if he believed in the peaceful transfer of power in America is another stunning moment today."

We’ve seen headlines for a few years of Trump throwing “tantrums” when he doesn’t get his way. (Especially at Raw Story, my go-to site for Recreational Outrage, where they like to do incendiary headlines.)

Did we ever know that he really literally (as in literally literally) throw tantrums? I always figured that was hyperbolic – just that he got angry and yelled and screamed. Now we now that Trump’s “tantrums” were REAL tantrums!

was meadows playing candy crush??! put the bloody phone down!

Sorry, it was a russian translation of the post I was replying to. Thought it would be clear. My bad.

“In the background… I heard them talking about the ‘Hang Mike Pence’ chants.”

“YOU HEARD HIM PAT, HE DOESN’T THINK THEY’RE DOING ANYTHING WRONG!”

Omg

NYT:

““He doesn’t want to do anything, Pat,” Hutchinson recalls Meadows telling Cipollone about Trump’s reaction to the violence.”

Hutchinson: “As an American, I was disgusted. It was unpatriotic… We were watching the Capitol building being defaced over a lie…”

NYT:

"Maggie Haberman

Trump “thinks Mike deserves it,” Hutchinson recalls Meadows telling Cipollone about the rioters chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” Among the most remarkable pieces of information to emerge from the committee’s work."

I’m wondering if any of the White House housekeeping staff will be writing any tell-all books in the future. They’ve been pretty tight-lipped about their charges up to now but we’ve never had a President like Trump before.

I hope a reporter sticks a mic in Pence’s face this evening and asks “Well?”

They’re used to it.

Bastard needs to be stripped of his pension(s).

Why don’t they bring in Engel himself and have him testify directly? (Is there some Secret Service rule/law about that?)
