Liz Cheney advised in her closing statement that a witness not yet heard from in the Committee’s hearings received a phone call from Trump. They refused to take it and instead referred the matter to their attorney, who notified the Committee. The Committee notified the DOJ.
Considering how often “No one is really stupid enough to believe the lies I was telling” has been used as a defense in court, yeah, I kind of think we do need unequivocal evidence that some people are that stupid on the record.
I find it interesting that Mr. Thompson always ends a hearing with a request for the gallery to remain seated “until the Capitol police have escorted the committee from the room.”
Boy - I gotta get my hearing checked, because the first 2 syllables of his “gentlewoman” sound greatly different than the clear 1st 2 syllables of his “gentleman.” And instead of sounding kinda like “gentle”, they sound exactly like “young”.
Are you serious?
I only saw the last 2 witnesses. I wonder how they will play to those like-minded. Because to me, it just sounded like “There are a ton of stupid people who are eager to believe whatever they read on-line.” Ayers described himself as “just a normal dad.” Yeah - just a normal dad who spends his free time delving into violent and hate-filled conspiracy theory.
Made me think of how popular Dubai’s Patriot Act and War on Iraq were. I’m having trouble seeing how charges - or other meaningful change - result from a politician relying on the gullibility of his/her followers.
He was asked if he repeatedly asked/advised Trump to do something to call it off, and he said yes, he and others thought it their duty. He was asked if Trump coulda gone to the media room at any time to call them off, and he said yes.
Not exactly a blockbuster to my ears, but I guess this is the sorta thing where the hope is that the cumulative weight of these countless grams of sand will add up to anything meaningful.
@Dinsdale , it’s not your hearing. I also heard “young woman” once or twice. But only once or twice; most often it was “gentlewoman from Wyoming” or “gentlelady from Florida,” for example.
Curious. Maybe the first time I heard it as “young woman” triggered me to mishear subsequent “young womans.”
I just know it has been decades since I was called to task for referring to people in ways I thought innocuous - or even complimentary. I sure would do my best to avoid doing so on a national platform.
I turned over to Fox right as Mr. Thompson was adjourning the meeting. The host turned to one of their legal experts for his summation of today’s hearing. He stated that they’ve only reinforced what everybody has known for some time…that Trump is no longer fit to hold office. And this is what they should have done 17 months ago at the impeachment hearings.
Yeah, I’m sure everybody on the legal team at Fox thought exactly that 17 months ago.
ETA: The legal dude also stated that there’s not nearly enough evidence to bring criminal charges against Trump.
My money is on Steve Bannon - he just agreed to testify and I’m sure Trump will want to coordinate what he should tell the panel. However, I think Bannon is legitimately aware of the legal peril he’s currently in and doesn’t want to continue pushing his luck - so when Trump called he wanted to show he’s playing ball with the government now.
