So Brewer wagging a finger in Obama’s face is no problem, but Obama walking away from a finger being wagged in his face is beyond the pale? What exactly *is *the protocol? Just stand there and take it?
Well, yeah. Otherwise people will call you “uppity”.
This. That’s some racist, coded language bullshit right there.
Well, let’s see… words were spoken… information was sought and in return information was given both via spoken word… yeah, I’d call that a conversation.
I’d say that if Magda is so easily “threatened” she’s a bit too much of a delicate flower to be governor.
I can’t remember where I read it, but someone somewhere recently commented that the “dog-whistle racism has morphed into vuvuzela racism.”
A white female governor saying she felt threatened by a black male president, at a public event in front of lots of other people? They’re not even trying to hide it anymore.
In a conversation, yes. In the linked video there was no conversation.
This may just be because I’m gettting horrifically cynical in my old age, but I’d be surprised to find out she has the conviction or the depth of character to be racist at all, much less stealth racist. Racism, nasty as it is, is still essentially a belief. Those things take time and effort to maintain. Even denial is still a thought process. She’s a Palin politician, using politics to sell herself as a product. All she knew was that it was a shiny hook to get attention for her book and herself. Once she’s no longer a governor, she’ll make the pundit rounds and occasionally make noise about running again just to keep people interested and keep the speaking fees up.
You must use a different definition for “conversation” than, oh, any dictionary of the English language in existence.
You know what isn’t a conversation? Some harpie wagging a finger in your face; that’s a berating. I’d have walked away too, after I called her a “cunt” under my breath, that is.
It’s not even that he’s the President. These are two adults in a professional setting. Putting your finger in someone’s face is inappropriate. However, the appropriate response to that is to just walk away.
Sure. In your dictionary a press conference is a “conversation” too?
Yes. But if you wish to stake your claim on the narrowest possible definition of the word, let’s say it isn’t… in a press conference, there is even MORE of an expectation that one will respond to questions than there is in a one-on-one chat. I.e., she was being more disrespectful, and to more people, than Obama allegedly was to her.
Sorry. A lot of heroes have fallen lately, and I know it must hurt.
The Arizona Republic newspaper has a copy of Jan Brewer’s hand written letter to Obama, which she tried to not have released.
I think she misspelled ‘America’.
Why don’t you explain to me how a press conference isn’t a conversation?
the candidate will take no more questions at this time. Thank you for coming.
Really, buddy. Is this the first time you’ve seen somebody walk away from the press while they still shouted questions? The president does it all the time. The press secretary comes out, says “we won’t be taking any more questions” and the president walks off as the press corps shouts “Mr. President! Mr. President!” as they try to get one last question in.
All politicians, football coaches, and lawyers do this. There is plenty to criticize ole Jan, here but you and Vinyl Turnip are reaching here and being more than a little pedantic.
You’ll note that in the video, she doesn’t announce that the conversation is over; she simply walks away after saying “thank you”.
The thing is, Gov. Brewer said that she would never walk away from a conversation. Yet clearly she would, and has. That’s (one reason) why I [del]called her a liar and a hypocrite[/del] noted that she is a liar and a hypocrite..
Clearly she hasn’t.
It was genius. Pure genius.
It looks like “Jmerica” or “Imerica” or “dmerica” but I think actually she just makes her cursive capital letter A oddly, starting with a curved upstroke from the left.
