Jason Voorhees, Friday the 13th, & Chainsaws

Well, pardon my weird and stupid question of the week, but I was wondering…Did Jason Voorhees, from the “Friday the 13th” movies, ever actually kill anyone with a chainsaw? (In the movies, I mean. Not in real life. I’m not that out of touch with reality) The “hockey masked psycho with a chainsaw” figure has become a cliche in parodies of horror movies, but the only even semi-authoritive tally I’ve seen so far of Jason’s victims (In an old Cracked magazine) never mentions a chainsaw being used on any of them, just mundane items like machetes, spear guns, etc. So, can anyone tell me where the Jason-chainsaw connection comes from, if not the movies?

Well, thanks for your time,
Ranchoth

You are thinking of Leatherface from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”.

“HEY BART WANNA SEE MY NEW CHAINSAW AND HOCKEY MASK?!!!”
I’ve seen all the Friday the 13th movies (though it’s been quite awhile) and I don’t remember any specific cases of Jason using a chainsaw. Maybe the “Chainsaw and Hockey Mask” is to avoid being too specific about the villain that said spoofs are spoofing.

No, the icon of the hokey mask and chainsaw is something that’s been around for a good long while now, so he’s not mistaken. Perhaps the image is a combination of both films’ shock, but yeah, in pop culture, Jason is seen and reputed to having a chainsaw, even though he never actually used one in the films. I don’t know the name of it, but there is a movie on the wall at Blockbuster of a girl screaming, and underneath is a picture of the villain…a guy in a hokey mask with a chainsaw. The image has also been used in many video games (House of the Dead 2 and Zombies Ate My Nieghbors for example), and it’s a rather popular costume used in haunted houses.

Basically, the two images are both very powerful and get blended together. The hokey mask wearing killer is easy to identify and simple, as well as the chainsaw, so it’s not suprising the two get thrown together without any real corrolation.

Has any other horror movie killer worn a hockey mask?

And to think what that guy in Part III started in pop culture when all he did was bring that hockey mask to camp, or wherever they were supposed to be.

The closest Jason ever got to a chainsaw is when he used a Bushmaster: looks like a circular saw blade at the end of a Weed Whacker.

I think he used a corkscrew once. Someone asked for one, and boy did he (or was it she?) get it-right through the hand. Zing! The covers might look a little less frightening, though, if he were wielding that. Gosh, he just seems to use whatever’s around, like a homicidal MacGyver.

That was Crispin Glover!
