You know, those look weird, but I bet they really help with getting the rhythm and cadence of English, not just the phonetics. A lot of the reason it’s hard to understand people who speak X as a second language is that a native X speaker is expecting a certain rhythm, and when it’s not there, it doesn’t matter if the sounds are technically perfect, it’s still hard to understand it.
