  1. Republican politician or commentator makes a cruel joke, or a cruel statement, targeting a person or a group.
  2. Politician/commentator is criticized by the liberals, and the mainstream press, for saying something insensitive and needlessly hurtful.
  3. Politician/commentator, and their supporters, respond with, “jeez, it was just a joke, lighten up!”
