There’s a non-zero chance at this point that a second Trump administration could result in Elon Musk becoming a dictator.
And that terrifies me more than Trump does.

Rachel Maddow looks at the conservative history of attacking universities for exposing students to ideas that conservatives don’t like, and highlights JD Vance in his own words discussing ideas for punishing universities and well as businesses that he sees as being on the wrong side of the culture war he is waging.
Well in all fairness to Vance, it is hard to get it on in the back seat of a Camero when there is a damn child seat there.
I agree with all that. However, I suspect that of all things happening on October 1st, it’s the dockworker strike that will affect the election most. (That’s assuming that the inevitable rise in prices that results will hit before November 5th.)
Developments today in the Middle East may matter more than the debate, too, to the extent that Republicans succeed in tying them to Harris. (Not that any sane person believes Harris can dictate events there, but then millions of voters aren’t operating on a basis of sanity.)
The debate will likely encourage Trump/Vance voters to think that Trump and Vance are wonderful, and encourage Harris/Walz voters to think that Harris and Walz are wonderful. Influence on “undecided” people is likely to be minimal.
Fortunately, the dockworkers are back on the job, insuring that adequate ketchup supplies are delivered to Merde-a-Lardo. 
Well, yes. But it could have been bad. Anything that stops even a few hundred people from voting Democratic is bad.
This will be back in the news before the Inauguration as the strike is only suspended, until 15 January. (It’s possible that if a contract is negotiated by then, there won’t be a strike.)
Anything that would give retailers an excuse to raise prices could have affected the election. As it was, a three-day stoppage isn’t unusual–it happens with weather events all the time. So retailers really won’t have that excuse.
As for JD Vance having an excuse to try to turn the 3-days-off into Something Huge That Kamala Did: he’s going to need more creativity than I believe he possesses.

But as has been noted here and elsewhere on the board, elected Republicans are saying with a straight face that Democrats control the weather. There’s not much one can say to that, to someone who accepts and believes it (other than 'did you forget to take your meds today?)

The NYTimes is publishing an interview with Vance tomorrow. No idea why not today except to make sure it’s released on a day when no one will read it.
In it, Vance refuses to admit that Trump lost the election in 2020, and states outright that he would not have certified the results.
I’m not linking, because someone always comes in to gripe that they don’t have a subscription. Just Google it, there are tons of articles about it.
They talked to the interviewer on CNN and show snippets of her questioning him. He totally will not answer the direct question at least 4 times. Keeps trying to move to something else.
I have to say she wouldn’t take his bait. Still he didn’t answer.
