JD Vance Discussion Thread

Thank you kindly.

I wonder who he thinks he’s fooling with this asinine equivocation. Those that believe that nonsense are already in his camp. If not by “those words”, then which ones? Who is he waffling for?

I had the same thought. What is the downside for him to making a full-throated assertion that Trump undoubtedly won, the election was rife with fraud, and he’s the one who should be sitting behind the Resolute Desk? What’s with the pussyfooting?

My apologies. I posted the wrong link. Thanks to @Atamasama for providing the correct one.

Soooo, trump "won"because Hunter’s laptop. OK.

There really isn’t one. If later he feels a need to recant and say the opposite, nothing is stopping him. He compared Trump to Hitler not long ago and he’s now his running mate. There are obviously no long-term consequences for saying whatever is most convenient for him in the short term.

As to why he’s not saying it? Cowardice maybe, or maybe he’s being warned not to by members of the Trump campaign, who knows.

I’d say 'some residual sense of shame’ but that’s obviously absurd.

My guess is that he knows quite well that Trump doesn’t have much time left, and Vance wants to preserve his chance at a career among the Republicans who will gratefully deep-six Trumpism when they think they can. And by prevaricating, Vance can claim that he “never” actually said that Trump won in 2020.

And he’ll probably get away with it.

A post-trump R party will have a lot of insider people LOUDLY competing to claim that all their full-throated toadying approval of trump and praise for MAGAtism for the last 8 or 12 years was all just a well-honed act to position themselves for the new reality that king trump is well and truly dead and now we’re turning the page into our Brave New World. (Which allusion they will not get.)

It’ll be great fun to watch the naked ambition competing with the craven total absence of ethics.

OMG Vance killed Liam Payne??

Maybe he ate his dog

I wonder how much influence Vance’s mother had over shaping the worldview he has today? And I guess this is meant to be a story that would resonate with a lot of people? MAGA, obviously, but anyone else?

Veteran reporter James Fallows says that JD Vance is “incalculably more threatening” than Trump. He notes that Elon Musk and Peter Thiel got JD Vance to where he is and says that this election is all about those three.

“I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible,” Peter Thiel famously wrote in 2009. Speaking for myself, I do not believe that plutocracy and democracy are compatible. That’s the head-on contest in this election.

Does Vance ever refer to his kids or wife by name?

Vance all but says that evangelicals who think he and Trump were anointed by God are full of it.

Well, JD, you sold your soul to this man and this is what he thinks of you.

I bet JD spent more time than usual, after that, compulsively re-reading the 25th Amendment.

When Trump chose JD I wondered how soon he’d regret it—not on the basis of any perceived harm to his ticket, but because JD doesn’t have Mike Pence’s natural submissiveness. Sitting at a table with Trump, JD would NEVER put his own water bottle on the floor as soon as Trump did. Nor would JD ever praise Donald’s “broad shoulders.”

Donald must feel a certain degree of nostalgia for the Pence days…

He says that trump compares favorably to Arnold Palmer.

Seriously? Vance said–or even implied–that?

Because when is he supposed to have…found out? :grimacing:

I wrote that in jest, but seriously, I surprised that trump didn’t include Tiger in his big cock soliloquy.

Yesterday CNN ran an interview of Vance by Jake Tapper which is worth some attention. Tapper didn’t go the ‘be nice to the fascist, preserve access, keep on his good side’ route (which somewhat surprised me). He kept to the question about John Kelly’s remark about Trump (“certainly falls into the general definition of Fascist”) and Trump’s promise to go after the “enemies within.”

Vance tried to sell the idea that every general or other high-ranking Trump official (Kelly, Mattis, McMaster, Bolton, Milley, Esper) who has said Trump is unfit, is saying that because they are Warmongers who know Trump is a Man of Peace, and if Trump gets in he will foil their plans to go to war.

This was NOT accepted at face value by Tapper, who pushed back hard. Vance then tried to change the subject–several times–and Tapper kept bringing back the ‘respected figures say Trump is unfit and Trump himself says he’ll take revenge on political opponents’ topic.

Vance tried desperately, but could NOT perform the usual ‘change the topic and/or sanewash what Trump actually said’ trick that Republicans have been–and still are!–performing all over the media.

(A representative sample of Vance’s wriggling on the hook:)

This won’t make any difference to Trump voters, of course. But it’s still nice to see, especially in the face of Bezos’ bowing down to Trump.

I watched that! Comedy Gold, if it wasn’t so tragic.

Tapper really seems to getting his Ire up, and you can tell he’s just really tired of the Bullshit and Isn’t Going to Take it Anymore! Much respect! He’s fun to watch.Too bad he is forced to edit himself somewhat. I’d love to hear him let loose.

Vance is such a putz.
