JD Vance Discussion Thread

He must be taking lessons from Comicus:

He stopped into a donut shop today. If he were fucking a couch on the counter it may have actually been less weird.

“I mean a lot of glazed here. Some sprinkle stuff. Couple cinnamon rolls. Whatever makes sense.”

Vance loves glazed.

“Do any of them have Swiss Cheese?”

His lack of charisma is what leaped out at me. He sounded like an impatient Ben Stein who was forced to order donuts even though he hates donuts.

Yeah, that was bad. My first thought was to imagine how different that scene would have played out with Walz.

Those people didn’t seem to know or care who he was, so to make it a good video op, he had only his charisma to rely upon. So, yeah, game over.

Walz would have charmed the cashier into not only being on video, but voting for him (if she wasn’t already), bought donuts for the whole film crew, given a couple dozen to the work crew fixing the road outside and convinced the single-mother having a breakdown in the parking lot that things would work out, while quieting her colicy baby and changing her flat tire.

Yes. Vance is a vanity pick.

Trump Jr, and others, wanted Vance. They were thinking generationally/decades down the road. Who (What) would be Trump’s legacy? Vance.

Vance is a young and intellectual/ideological torch bearer of the new right movement.

With that said, Trump doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would think anyone could be his legacy. So who knows. I’ve never heard Trump say Vance is the “legacy” or the above, only Jr and the others.

IMO trump cannot conceive of not being immortal in addition to all his other unique “gifts”. The kids, evil to the core as they are, know better. Dad is doomed in the near future and they need a new standard bearer that they control. Because they’re too F***-ed up to be that standard bearer(s) themselves.

Historically eminence grise often outlive, and out-prosper, their lieges. Thus do the next generation of trump family hatch their evil plans behind the scenes.

Game of Thrones has nothing on these grifting schemers.

It really reminded me of this scene from Veep.

Most cheese steak places do, and I mildly prefer it. Provolone, second choice.

Exactly my thought as well. Walz would have bought donuts for everyone there, and probably insisted on helping the cashier pack the boxes and pass them out himself. And if there’s a little kid there that wanted two they would absolutely get two and a big old hug.

I’m guessing Vance didn’t do anything like that.

Now for something completely superficial. What the hell is up with Vance’s hair?

Looks like his hair is telling him it doesn’t want to be on camera with him either.

My hair does that too. But I’m not running for national office.

This might be a slight hijack, but I think Vance is part of it (the ideology part, one of many).

Trump/Trumpism/Maga/The cult is one thing. Trump has little to no values. Purely a narcissistic man.

Trump is a disrupter. He came in and cleaned out the R party. That leaves a vacuum.

The other thing, separate from Trump/Trumpism/etc, are The ideological nuts, that used to be kept out. They filled the vacuum. Unlike Trump, They really believe it and have an actual agenda. Trump is just the vessel to get their agenda in the mainstream which is why they kiss the ring and tolerate him even if they don’t like him.

To say it differently, Trump would do what he’s doing as a Democrat as long as his narcissistic needs were met. And all the liberal ideological nuts would fill the void of centrists leaving the party.

**to be clear, I’m using centrist extremely widely for both R and D.

Yes. F***ing trump is the almost ideology-free vessel of cult-trailing electability onto which the various forces of evil hitch their ideological wagons of actual effective evil-doing.

You’re absolutely right, @LSLGuy, and I think that needs to be said more. Trump is the ultimate tool.

Trump himself says he likes people who love him. Along with not understanding that “asylum” has more than one meaning, that’s why he keeps invoking Hannibal Lecter, because he thinks an actor who played him (maybe?) said he loved Trump. He admits that he has to support electric cars now because of Elmo bucks. It’s why he chose Vance, and why he won’t drop him.

This is why his policies (such as they are) are so extreme: anyone who can flatter him can guide him to anything. Why doesn’t that scare republican voters more? Especially old-school republicans whose representatives have too much integrity to still have Trump’s perfect ear.

He’s the epitome of venality, and who can tell whose face he’ll bite off next.

It’s the new MAGA mullet - “business” up front, dipshit in the rear.

And, yeesh, that was an awkward donut shop video. I’d go as far to say weird.
