Jeopardy! 2022-23

Recently, one of the contestants said basically that, rather than “potent potables for $400”.

I never knew Alex was supposed to say it.

I was quiet and allowed my husband to work it out. Which he did! He then told me he had never read it. He’s a non-reader, so I wasn’t surprised, but I find that very sad.

If that was ever an official policy, it fell by the wayside years ago. It was absolutely routine for contestants to call for the final clue on the board for as long as I can remember. Occasionally Alex might say “Here’s the final clue,” if the contestant was a bit slow in asking for it, but I don’t remember it ever being a requirement that he should say it.

I was a contestant on the show in 2018, and nobody ever said a word to us about letting Alex announce that it was the last clue.

I rather like him as a contestant, but the swivelhips make me seasick.

I wonder if the wiggle is just a way to deal with anxiety. It doesn’t bother me personally. I am Canadian enough not to even notice his mild smugness or him saying please. Some Canadians use “please” like a comma.

Not that he really owes anyone an explanation, but according to this article from TBnewswatch, it’s probably medical.

“He explained that he suffered some spinal cord damage over a period of years, and had to work hard to prevent muscle spasms in his legs while he was on camera.”

Smugness is a weird thing. I am often surprised when someone’s behavior is perceived as smug; I often think of that same behavior as, at worst, quirky. I believe most who are thought of as smug are nothing of the sort.

mmm

It isn’t unreasonable for great players like Matt Amodio or Ray Lalonde to look pleased with themselves when they get a right answer. This is particularly true for hard questions or when one relies on “muscle memory” and guesses right though quite unsure. If one looks pleased with themselves often, they risk being labelled with this nebulous epithet. It means little. I would likely act similarly.

When the category was announced, I looked at the wife and said, “Charlotte’s Web.”

As for the current champ’s swaying, the wife is quite taken with it.

Well, the FJ category today was Children’s Books and even though I was tempted to guess Charlotte’s Web after reading this thread, I did get it right which I think was pretty good having never read the book.

My wife glared at me when I said “Charlotte’s Web” before the clue was read. Maybe because she correctly named the correct book before I could.

Meh. I always yell “Make Way For Ducklings” even though it’s always “Charlotte’s Web”.

I attempted to watch the rerun of Celebrity Jeopardy last night, and I am soooo glad Ken is the host of regular Jeopardy.

Then I’m sorry to tell you that Mayim is coming back to the daily show, I think starting next week.

:frowning:

Ugh.

I agree- she’s terrible.

No, really?? Dammit.

'Fraid so:

Season 39 of “Jeopardy!” will begin in September, with Jennings kicking off as host through December. Bialik will then take over as host in January, although Davies didn’t specify how long she would host due to her commitments to the sitcom “Call Me Kat.”

Thank Og for that shitty show.

Anybody else for whom the 12/22 was another (for me) Thor Heyerdahl moment? As in “Banksy? Who the heck is that?”

Does graffiti really have that much of a fandom? Why is anyone supposed to have heard of this guy?
