I’m a little behind on episodes but one of the FJ clues this week was (almost) literally the opening text of the highest grossing movie of 2022.
I can’t believe one of the contestants missed it!
I haven’t seen the original Top Gun since the 1990s, and haven’t seen Top Gun: Maverick, so while it might have been clear from one of those movies, I never knew that “Top Gun” was the actual name of a military program. I always thought it was just a phrase the people behind the movie came up with because they thought it sounded cool.
I saw Top Gun: Maverick back in May 2022. I definitely do not remember anything about what the opening text said. I didn’t even remember there was opening text! I had no idea for that FJ.
I’m glad to know that I wasn’t the only one who completely whiffed on that FJ. Because I felt rather stupid after the answer was revealed.
On the late-great radio (NPR) show Whad’ya Know, host Michael Feldman would preface the quiz portion with a Disclaimer (IIRC):
“Misleading or poorly worded questions are par for the course. Sticklers for the truth should get their own show.”
I am disappointed that Jeopardy!, the legendary Gold Standard TV quiz show, now needs a similar Disclaimer.

On tonight’s episode, there was a clue about the UK national anthem. They accepted “What is ‘God Save the Queen’?” Technically, that’s not the anthem right now.
Well, the clue said it had the same tune as “My Country 'Tis of Thee” so that limits the choices. I don’t recall if it said “current” though.
When is Ken coming back?
would “what is god save the monarch” be an acceptable answer?

There’s been no official announcement about when the hosts will switch again, but some are more hopeful than others. Twitter account @IsKenHosting claims that Jennings may actually return on Friday, March 10—after the high school tournament concludes—and host through April 14.
I’m not really a fan of this high school reunion tournament. It seems like they’re just making up reasons to create special tournaments, like this or the second chance tournament.
Any chance the match was taped before QEII’s death? Some quick googling reveals 3 months as the typical lag between taping and airing, but maybe tournaments are different?
As much as I love Jeopardy!, I don’t know if I can muster the strength to tune in with Bialik hosting.

God Save the King vs Queen
Elizabeth died and Charles automatically acceded to the throne on September 8. That sounds like a long lead time. OTOH the Clue didn’t say “today,” so I would have accepted the title that has been used for the entire life of the contestants.
I know I can’t. The Archives will blunt the withdrawal until Ken comes back.
There was a clue today about Lisa Marie Presley’s death, and that was only last month, so it couldn’t have been taped very long ago.
