Jeopardy! 2022-23

I don’t really think I spoiled anything. I purposely didn’t mention the clue. Saying it wasn’t Psycho doesn’t narrow it down much :slightly_smiling_face:
But, yeah, gotta watch the spoilers.

I was surprised that only one person got the Final Jeopardy clue.

Speaking of wagering – Zach Wissner-Gross, who appeared on Wednesday (March 22) writes the Riddler column for 538. One of this weeks riddles concerns his wager.

Brian

A quibble about the FJ category name – can we really call the JB theme a “movie theme song” It’s more like the “JB leitmotif”.

As a music major, I recognize that we lost the “it’s a song only if someone’s singing” battle long ago.

It wasn’t much of a spoiler, that’s true. I’d still rather watch the show without any advance knowledge, not even the categories.

I do this, too. It would be interesting to hear some folks’ wrong, but still good guesses. When the category was “Movie Theme Songs”, I said…

Who is Shirley Bassey?

It was the first thing I thought of, but then rejected, because each one of those movies has a different theme song.

Do we really need spoilers in this thread?

I know I don’t look here until I’ve watched the newest episode

Yes, we need spoilers. Jeopardy doesn’t come on in my location until 8 PM. Which is 10 PM in the Eastern time zone. Those Easterners who get Jeopardy in the afternoon or early evening, and jump online to discuss the day’s episode, can easily ruin it for me before I’ve had the chance to see it.

As for the Monty Norman clue, I knew the question immediately. That’s the only thing I know him for, and it is a movie theme, so it was easy.

Then why are you reading this thread at that time? Once it gets into evening time I don’t open this thread until I’ve seen the days episode. If you get spoiled by reading here, that’s on you.

ISTM that when James Holzhauer was in the midst of his Jeopardy streak, there was a LOT of posting in the Jeopardy thread. And that led to an unofficial understanding that nobody would post about today’s game until 8 pm Eastern time, unless spoilers were utilized. As I recall, that worked pretty well.

Jeopardy comes on for me at 3:30 CT and finishes at 4:00. I can easily wait 3 hours before bitching about the betting strategy of the second-place finisher.

We record episodes and watch them the next day. Lately a couple have been missing; I assume they were preempted by some sportsball event?

My guess, before seeing the clue, was Eye of the Tiger.

But I knew the correct answer once I saw the clue.

Thank you. That’s a sensible approach.

Yes, it’s March Madness basketball, they’ve been showing Jeopardy at 1am here, so I haven’t seen the last couple.

I’m sorry, Jeopardy! but dilithium crystals don’t power the starships, anti-matter does. The dilithium crystals convert the antimatter power into useful energy.

Tonight’s FJ:

In math, it’s a rotated V; in society, it’s a feeling of some marginalized or underrepresented people.

Answer: What is less than?

I think this is a terrible clue and response. I don’t think the second part makes much sense. I was expecting a technical math term like “divisor” that would somehow fit the second part.

Together, the greater than and less than symbols are called inequalities. “What is inequality?” makes a lot more sense to me than “less than.” I wonder if that’s what they were going for, but when Tamara answered “less than” they realized they had to accept it, too.

I got the answer right away and was surprised two of them missed it.

I got it but thought the clue was weird. Do marginalized people feel “less than.” Maybe, but it’s not an expression I’ve ever heard in that context.

In fact, I thought a lot of clues on yesterday’s game were maddening. We really need a WWE category on Jeopardy? The “before and after” stuff was stupid. And a lot more I’ve forgotten. (After one that stumped everyone, Ken said was “a hard one.” I don’t remember what it was but I do recall thinking, “Hard? that is impossible.”

My wife reminded me this morning that one of the players gave the response I said in the spoiler might have been the one they wanted, but it was ruled incorrect. :person_facepalming:
