Jeopardy! 2022-23

In reality, a week’s worth of Jeopardy! episodes is taped in a day, so an entire month’s shows can be taped in a week. So I believe the regular schedule already allows for vacations, personal time and so forth. Remember that Alex Trebek hosted for decades and still had time to travel the world.

Maybe, but requiring both hosts on the same day still reduces that benefit.

Or that category that dictated answers had to have the “ei” letter combination, and for that bugle melody she answered “Taps” instead of the correct “Reveille.” I was fed up with her on her first appearance, when she answered “the Alamo” instead of “Vera Cruz.” She seemed a little off in general, and I felt embarrassed for her most of her three days. Good riddance.

I hate these “before and after” questions, which the players also usually miss. I like wordplay questions in general, though, possibly much easier for crossword enthusiasts.

One of my favorite Jeopardy! clues ever was in a “Before and After” category. It was an audio clue:

And the music was Take the Skinheads Bowling.

A clever clue, better than most of the ones in that catergory.

I’ve been making more and more of the same kind of mistake, because at this point the contestants all do the Forrest Bounce/hunt for the Daily Doubles first thing. It’s a shame; the practice of running straight down one category at a time is completely dead. I’m constantly failing to pay attention to the category.

I often forget the names of the categories; I almost wish the category names were kept on the bottom of the screen.

That’s a great idea. As an example, contestants will say something like “I’ll take Capitals for 800”, and I’ll completely forget that the category was World Capitals as opposed to State Capitals.

Worse still, IIRC the clue referred to the “rousing” bugle call. “Taps” is the antithesis of “rousing.”

I love “before and after” categories. I hate anagrams. I almost never get a single one.

I agree about leaving the categories on screen. I embarrass myself t least once every game.

Not only are the contestants doing the “bounce”, but they almost always leave the top two rows until the end

Most of the “Before and After” clues lead to phrases the writers dream up themselves. The one I posted was about an existing band whose name happened to match the before-and-after format. In fact, that’s the only time I can remember when a “Before and After” clue did that.

For anyone who doesn’t want to look it up, the band is…

Camper Van Beethoven

They could tape a month’s shows in a week, but they don’t. The schedule is two tape days per week. (At least, it was in the Trebek days, and I haven’t heard that it has changed since then.)

I thought it was two tape days every other week, 5 shows per day.

Is the same audience present for the multiple tapings per day? Or does each show get a new batch of spectators?

When I was on in 1991, they taped three shows, then took a “lunch break” (it was around 3 pm, IIRC), then taped the last two, switching audiences during the break.

After I lost my episode, I went into the audience and joined my wife and friends, and watched the taping of the next show.

I liked it when they started showing the category for Final Jeopardy. Maybe we should start a petition!

I would like it if they showed the category each question. Sometimes taking a bathroom break at the wrong time can make the whole round slightly more confusing.

Is there an unwritten rule that Maya Angelou must be mentioned at least once per episode?
