I thought it had to be South America, and couldn’t come up with the two countries.
I just watched the first Celebrity Jeopardy (of this season, obviously not the first ever).
Andy didn’t know Vatican City?? I was rooting for him to win it all

I’m still convinced that Ego Nwodim threatened him (during a commercial break) with ‘social media backlash’ or something similar. There were several minutes in which Richter just stood there, not buzzing in–and I bet you a dollar he knew some or all of those answers.
I mean, there’s ‘cute/comic’ hostility between competitors when celebs appear on a show, and then there’s real hostility. I think we may have been seeing the latter. (Obviously just my opinion.)
I didn’t realize that Celebrity Jeopardy had started a couple of weeks ago, and when I looked at the list of contestants for #3, I didn’t recognize any of them. Celebrities for a certain value of “celebrity,” I guess. But I’m an old fogey, so not surprising.
BTW, have you noticed that while the old opening title sequence formerly featured mostly images reflecting topic areas, with just a few related to Jeopardy itself, now that ratio has flipped: mostly Jeopardy, and fewer general subjects. All part of trying to expand the brand, I guess. (I still don’t think it will work, and I predict that this time next year we’ll be back to just the regular daily show.)
One more thing: does anyone recognize this man? He appeared in the title sequence back in season 37 and before. The opening featured different famous people each day of the week, like Gandhi, etc. I recognized all of them, except him.
Not 100% sure, but possibly Jackie Robinson.
Oops, who is Jackie Robinson?
At first I didn’t think so, but I think you’re right.
In almost all the pictures I found online he’s wearing a ball cap, which made it harder to compare, and I didn’t find that particular one in a few minutes of searching, nor did it show up with Google Lens. But he’s certainly appropriate.
Thanks.
It appears on Sunday nights here in Hawaii. Missed the first one but caught the second one last week. Did not recognize the “celebrities,” but enjoyed the show. Liked the Triple Jeopardy round. No. 3 on tonight.
Issue the very beginning and was confused I didn’t see Cris P. It is the second chance tournament the next two weeks.
Brian
Yeah, looks like we won’t be seeing Cris for a bit. I’m looking forward to Second Chance and T of C.
From the first game of the 2nd chance, it doesn’t look like so much like great players got steamrolled by the James/Matt/Amy/Mattea train but more like they were just not that good. It was nearly a 3X runaway.
I think they said the second chance winner gets a slot in the Tournament of Champions. My guess is they figured out how many people automatically qualified for the ToC, and found that they were short of the (I think) fifteen they need. So they came up with this idea to fill out the roster.
Game 2 has a close first and second going into final.
In previous ToC they have added the senior and college champs but even before that they added 4 day champs. It’s possible they are adding these in addition or instead of 4 day champs.

In Friday’s game - and correct me if I’m wrong - Jessica nearly screwed up big-time.
Her lead in game 2 was not that big. But added to her game 1 winnings, neither James nor Molly could have caught her even if they doubled their game 2 totals. Therefore, a wager of $0 would have guaranteed her the tournament slot.
Instead, she bet $10,000, and if either of the others had had the correct response (it was a triple stumper), she would have lost.
Game 1 scores were:
James: $30,929
Molly: $15,600
Jessica: $28,600
Going into Game 2 FJ, the scores were:
James: $2,000
Molly: $10,600
Jessica: $15,300
James bet $2,000 and lost. Had he been correct, he would have had $4,000. Adding $4,000 to his Day 1 total of $30,929, he would have had $34,929.
Molly bet $10,600 and lost. Had she been correct, she would have had $21,200. Adding $21,200 to her Day 1 total of $15,600, she would have had $36,800.
Jessica bet $10000 and lost. She ended up with $33,900.
So you are correct…if either James or Molly had answered FJ correctly, either one would have beaten Jessica.
Jessica’s combined score going into FJ was $43,900. Thus, the maximum she should have bet was $7099. After her wrong answer, she would have had $36,801, which would have been one dollar more than the most Molly could have finished with.
But you are right…rather than trying to do the math, she should have realized that she an insurmountable lead and bet nothing. After all, the winner received $35,000, so her final amount didn’t really matter…as long as she had more money than the other two contestants.
Thanks for pointing that out. I had intended to mention it and got distracted. Just another example of smart people making stupid bets.
It’s funny - wasn’t it last night’s episode, in the meet and greet, where one of the contestants said she spent her time not studying, but practicing wagering? And she won.
Yes, and she made exactly the right bet on Final. Earlier, though, she made what I thought was a much-too-small wager on a DD. Of course, she may have lacked confidence in the category, but she did get it right, and therefore left money on the table.
Edit: Looking back over the game recap, Sadie hit both DDs in the DJ round and made relatively small wagers both times. She did have a decent lead already, so I suppose I can see betting conservatively. But she had a chance to really put the game away and didn’t do it.
I forgot to humble brag after yesterday’s show. My wife and I play a little game: just before the last commercial break, when Ken announces the FJ category, we each try to guess the FJ response before even seeing the clue. (I think recent champ Cris mentioned that he does this, too.)
The category for Monday’s FJ was “Authors,” and I immediately said “Hemingway.”
The clue:
When Esquire began as a men’s lifestyle magazine in the 1930s, he was asked for manly content & wrote in 28 of the first 33 issues.
I’ve managed to do it several other times, too. IIRC, “Picasso” worked in a category about painters. IOW, pick a really famous and obvious exemplar of the category.
We had a similar game we played during Trivial Pursuit games; e.g., if it’s a city name Paris.
I got that beat.
The category was “Alliterative Athletes” and I said “Mark McGwire. Could also be Sammy Sosa.”
