A week or two ago, the category was “20th Century European Leaders.”
I immediately said “Neville Chamberlain!”
Yep.
Impressive, and I wouldn’t have gotten one of them in a million years, much less both. Well done.
Wil Wheaton bets $1701

According to Wikipedia, Melissa Rauch will be in the next episode. Wil was only in a few BBT episodes, but MR worked with MB quite a lot. It isn’t like MB makes judgements so I’m not claiming bias – I just find it interesting. I wonder how they pick the celebrities.
Apparent there will be 27 celebrities, the 9 winners will play in 3 games, and then the final.
With holiday breaks this will go into 2023.

Mayim’s already been friends with some of the celebrities. With at least one–I want to say it was Iliza Shlesinger–she said something like “I just texted you that a few days ago!” I think that, since it’s for charity, they’re taking the normal restrictions on contact between host and contestants a bit less serioiusly.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, or the newer producers are deliberately trying to appeal to a younger crowd, but I recognize fewer of these celebrities than I have in previous celebrity tournaments.
My go-to answer for explorers has always been Vasco de Gama. I say it jokingly, but one time it was actually a Portuguese explorer and I was right!
It looked like the contestants just didn’t grasp the “Parliament of Vowels” category - 5 triple stumpers, IIRC. Not to brag but I ran the category.
Pretty lame category, actually…I think the writers went a little far for a bad pun.
I wasn’t sure if they didn’t understand the category, or just didn’t know the names of the various parliaments. I would have run it, but I couldn’t think of the word “Knesset.”
Well dang. My husband and I just looked at each other silent and wide-eyed for all of those. I think it was a harder game than usual overall.
It took me a couple clues to catch on. I got Knesset and a couple others.
For some reason, I find it easier the other way 'round; remove the vowels and leave the consonants.
That makes sense. Hebrew doesn’t even have vowels.
That was some smart wagering today. I was rooting for him since it seemed like Jonathan got two softball categories, being an actor.
Funny that today they had a category that was exactly that: Hawaiian words with the vowels removed and they got them all correct!
Random side note - I saw Jonathan in The Tempest at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival this summer. I thought he was quite good.
Just out of curiosity, did they settle on a permanent host, or are they still using temps?
Ken and Mayim are the permanent hosts, Mayim of Celebrity Jeopardy, and Ken of the daytime show, so far. It’s not clear whether, when Celebrity Jeopardy crashes and burns (again), they’ll go back to alternating on the daily show or if they’ll come up with yet another badly-conceived and short-lived variation for Mayim to host.
Bugger. We somehow recorded an episode that was neither Celebrity Jeopardy, nor the Tournament of Champions. Gotta get that straightened out quick!
My understanding is that Ken hosts “regular” Jeopardy until Dec 31st, then we’re stuck with Mayim for the next six months, then Ken… etc. Please tell me I’m wrong.
Not saying you’re wrong, but I had not heard that they were going to switch off every six months.
Ken Jennings, Mayim Bialik back hosting Jeopardy in fall 2022.
Jennings will kick off season 39 in the fall, hosting new episodes of Jeopardy from September through December — including the first-ever Second Chance competition and the Tournament of Champions. The latter will feature Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, Ryan Long, and more.
Meanwhile, Bialik will host the new series Celebrity Jeopardy in prime time before taking over from Jennings on the flagship show in January. She will host new tournaments as well as the National College Championships, while also balancing her schedule shooting the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat.
“We know you value consistency, so we will not flip flop the hosts constantly and will keep you informed about the hosting schedule,” Davies said.
Not sure if that means no Ken next year until next season or what.
