I certainly knew that MASH was not a drama (although Alan Alda tried to make it a drama the last few seasons of its run). Likewise, I didn’t consider Hawaii 5-O a drama; it’s a procedural show like CSI or ER. I was thinking more along the lines of Dallas or Falcon Crest as true dramas.
I’m slightly post-boomer, and I got it. I was aware of Hawaii 5-0 and Magnum P.I. during their original runs, but never really watched either. But I do remember reading once that the cancellation of 5-0 created an opportunity to film a new show in Hawaii, and that show became Magnum.
I’ve always guessed right on names ending with “ski”.
Ken’s ear tug on the Carol Burnett clue was brilliant.
I did not watch the show, and so did not get the hint about the new show acknowledging an old character. But I knew where they took place. ![]()
I am far from a Hollywood and/or movie buff, but I got today’s FJ correct. I thought it was rather easy, but none of the contestants knew the answer.
And the 3rd place guy at the start of FJ made a bad bet, but still won the game. Barely.
I got today’s FJ movie question correct but it was a total guess.
mmm
Yeah, no kidding. What else could it be?
When the category was revealed, I said “who is Louis B. Mayer”; so I was already thinking in terms of studio moguls.
When the clue was read, my first thought was Marx. That didn’t seem right, though. '27 seemed too early for the Marx Brothers to have been A-listers going to a world premier, and I didn’t think they’d had a brother that died young. Then I figured it was probably a reference to the Warner Brothers, but I wasn’t 100% sure.
I knew in my heart that “Nicholas Brothers” wasn’t the answer, but I went with it anyway to give them a little shoutout.
Yeah those post-2000 popular music and current TV show categories are annoying. I suspect they’re a bone thrown to young women.
It’s actually kind of a revelation to me that Magnum PI was set in Hawaii. If you asked me to guess where some random detective show I knew nothing about was set, I would probably throw out New York, LA, or Chicago.
The Hawaiian setting of Magnum PI was a huge part of the show.
I’m sure it was, and I know it was a popular show so I’m sure there are many people who know that, but I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that someone who was too young to be interested in it or to pay attention to any of the buzz surrounding it while it was on the air to know that.
I think the Jeopardy! writers are stalking me. I’ve been to three of the places mentioned on today’s show.
There is a new current version on TV, with different actors of course, but it’s still in Hawaii.
They must have changed the requirements since I was in school. We made our missions out of sugar cubes!
Are you two Welshmen by any chance? ![]()
Even I (as a Canadian) got Friday’s FJ that all three missed. US Landmarks - it was something like “The President celebrated the Bicentennial by lighting a third lantern here”.
Of course - it was the Old North Church in Boston .
The announcement at the end of the show was a big downer. I think Ken is doing an excellent job.
