Jeopardy! 2022-23

I guessed “spats.”
I was wrong on both chronology and etymology.

Bobby socks briefly entered my mind, but I mistakenly thought they were mostly a '50s fad.

My guess was snood, which did have a tremendous increase in popularity in the '40s. But the etymology was way off. A greater knowledge of Old English would have helped.

In an odd coincidence, I happened to catch a rerun of Classic Concentration yesterday, and one of the puzzles was “bobby socks”.

‘Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.

The “culottes” worn by all upper class men throughout the 18th Century (and before) were tight knee-length britches. Lower class men wore full length trousers.

That is a completely different garment than the “culottes” meaning loose split skirts, as worn by women starting in the 1960s. Some forward-thinking women began wearing them in the 1930s.

Culottes were worn by the French ruling class until the Revolution, when wearing long pants was a sign of solidarity with the people. Hence “Sans-culottes”.

I missed that episode, but if the clue was “40s fashion” my guess would’ve been zoot suit.

Do I win?

Ok, help me out here. Who does Anji Nyquist, the winner of July 5, remind me of? There’s some actress that she looks like. All the online stories about her mock her Valley Girl accent, even though she’s from Minnesota.

Maybe Jameela Jamil from “The Good Place”?

mmm

For some reason she reminded me of April Bowlby who played Kandi on Two and a Half Men.

Probably the valley girl talk and the way she pinched her lips and face.

Wondering about a look-alike for Anji Nyquist (what a great name for a Minnesotan!)

For her look-alike I came up with

That’s the closest I could get.

I see it.

Not sure if the issue is considered closed but she reminds me of Tiya Sircar, who played Vicky the demon on The Good Place.

LOL… I had a lot of trouble posting that from my phone and so spent a lot of time on it. Only upon returning two hours later do I notice that I’m suggesting a second actress from the same show. :upside_down_face:

I thought I caught an error in tonight’s show, but I checked Wikipedia and it looks like they got it right.

Don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll come back with the details later.

The other day, I was a little freaked out when Kate Campolieta was playing her second game; her hands were behind her, so until she relaxed during the contestant interview segment, I was convinced she had no arms.

Heh, I thought that was just me.

There’s at least three of us.

Me too, but I figured she had to have hands to use her signaling device. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a physically disabled contestant of any type. No wheelchairs, crutches, missing limbs, etc. That doesn’t seem very woke of them.
