I’ll bet on, um, what’s…Amodio.
Ken mentioned “no wagering”, not sure what that means for Final Jeopardy, but no daily doubles does change things.

Apparently it was Merv Griffin’s idea for how to make a simple Q & A show more “interesting”. I guess he was right, as it made him a fortune.
I once predicted both the answer and the essence of the question from the category “household products”. Ivory soap, with the clue referencing the “other” 56/100 of one percent of the ingredients. I had just read a Straight Dope staff report on one of Cecil’s columns, and it struck me (and apparently not only me) as good material for FJ.
It wasn’t clear to me whether Ken meant the contestants wouldn’t be wagering in the exhibition or if he was channeling David Letterman’s familiar “this is an exhibition, not a competition, so please, no wagering” intro for Stupid Pet Tricks. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
Did not think of that connotation, certainly possible.
Brian
Also, it was right after the scandal in other quiz shows where contestants were discovered to have been given the answers in advance. Griffin thought: If the contestants have to give the question, nobody can accuse them of being given the answer.
In the early 1960s, when entertainer/producer Merv Griffin was trying to devise a new quiz show format, his then-wife Julann suggested that he give the answer to contestants and have them respond with a question. As Merv told the story, she said to him “5,280.” He responded, “How many feet are in a mile?” The approach created a new twist to the popular genre and the rest is history.
And once again, the only station that carries Jeopardy hereabouts (an American station that is part of my cable package) has pre-empted Jeopardy in order to show a US college basketball game. This is not the first time this has happened, and I suppose that I can find a replay of today’s Jeopardy on YouTube, but it is still a disappointment.
Are you in Spokane? If so, today’s J! will be aired tomorrow at 3pm.
Not in Spokane–northeast of it actually, in Alberta–but Spokane is where I get Jeopardy from. And yes, Gonzaga is playing basketball tonight, so no Jeopardy.
Thanks for the tip for tomorrow, but I found today’s episode on YouTube, so no problem.
It’s fascinating how ubiquitous it has become. I heard players on Ask Me Another (a quiz show on NPR) answer with “who is…” and get somewhat mocked for it.
I also like those occasions on Jeopardy! when the response is already a question. If the clue was “this movie featured the only on-screen pairing of Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse” you don’t have to respond “what is Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”, but everybody does.
On YouTube? Where? I’d really appreciate knowing how to do that. Because in the past KHQ hasn’t been consistent with their broadcasts of preempted J episodes.
Also, FWIW, I’m not in Spokane either- I’m 80 miles to the South in Moscow, Idaho.
Here in Houston, Jeopardy! was preempted by the Astros World Series parade. Go 'Stros!
I watched it on YouTube today. I googled Jeopardy “nov 7 2022” (it is delayed by a day.) Look for “full episode” in the description.
Channel 13 runs older Jeopardy shows at 1:00 AM every day, but when the new daytime shows that air at 11:30 are pre-empted they run them in the 1AM slot. I recorded it overnight and watched it this morning.
How 'bout them Astros!
Yes, just as Rebo noted, except in my case I Googled “Jeopardy 11-7-22.” A few YouTube results came up, and I selected one that said, “Full Episode.” It was indeed the full episode.
I’m sure they’ll be taken down at some point, but I guess if you find that KHQ’s broadcast is pre-empted by basketball, you can immediately turn to YouTube and get today’s episode before it is deleted.
Good enough for me. Thanks, to both of you.
It was standard number of daily doubles and (IMHO tough) final Jeopardy. So “no wagering” was probably a Letterman reference. Ken screwed up and gave away one response.
Brian
Ken screwing up was so funny just because it was so out of character for him.
Those three all seemed liked they were having so much fun, perhaps because there was no money involved and it made it less stressful. I’m sure we’ll see the fangs get bared when it’s more critical.
I would have liked to see Mattea bet it all with an answer of “Who is Cliff Clavin?”
